The PYP Science Teacher will be responsible for delivering inquiry-based science instruction aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The teacher will guide students through hands-on learning, scientific exploration, and concept-based understanding while promoting curiosity and critical thinking.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning
Deliver science lessons integrated into transdisciplinary PYP units.
Use inquiry-based approaches to help students explore scientific concepts (life science, physical science, environmental science, etc.).
Plan engaging experiments, demonstrations, and hands-on learning activities.
Encourage scientific thinking, observation, questioning, and problem-solving.
Differentiate instruction to cater to diverse learning needs.
Curriculum Planning & Development
Collaborate with the PYP Coordinator and grade-level team to create unit planners aligned with PYP themes.
Design learning engagements that support the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL).
Maintain proper documentation, reflections, lesson plans, and student portfolios.
Assessment & Reporting
Conduct formative and summative assessments to track student understanding.
Provide clear and constructive feedback to students.
Maintain accurate assessment data and prepare progress reports.
Identify students needing additional academic support and provide interventions.
Student Engagement & Classroom Environment
Create a safe, stimulating, and inquiry-rich classroom environment.
Manage classroom behavior as per IB expectations and school guidelines.
Encourage curiosity, exploration, and scientific inquiry through interactive learning.
Parent Interaction
Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress.
Conduct parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and presentations when needed.
Share learning updates, unit overviews, and science-related activities.
Professional Responsibilities
Participate in IB PYP professional development, training sessions, and workshops.
Contribute to school events, exhibitions, science fairs, and co-curricular activities.
Collaborate with peers and demonstrate a positive, professional attitude.
