We are seeking a qualified Plastic Engineer with procurement expertise to manage the sourcing, evaluation, and purchasing of plastic raw materials, components, and molded parts. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in plastics, knowledge of plastic manufacturing processes, and a keen understanding of supplier markets and cost structures. This role bridges engineering with commercial procurement, supporting cost-effective and high-quality sourcing strategies
Key Responsibilities:
Material Sourcing & Procurement
Identify and evaluate suppliers of plastic resins, polymers, and plastic components (injection-molded, blow-molded, etc.).
Negotiate contracts, prices, and delivery terms with suppliers.
Ensure timely procurement of plastic materials while maintaining inventory levels and production schedules.
Technical Evaluation
Assess plastic materials and components based on engineering drawings, specifications, and performance requirements.
Work with R&D and manufacturing teams to validate supplier samples and conduct material testing.
Supplier Development & Audits
Collaborate with quality and engineering teams to qualify new suppliers.
Conduct supplier audits and assess manufacturing capabilities.
Cost Analysis & Optimization
Analyze cost structures of plastic materials and drive cost-saving initiatives.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Coordinate with design, production, and quality teams to ensure alignment of material specifications.
Provide technical input on plastic material selection during product development.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and industry standards (e.g., RoHS, REACH, ISO).
Maintain procurement records, material certifications, and supplier documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Plastic Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in plastic materials procurement, sourcing, or manufacturing. Strong understanding of: Plastic resins (e.g., ABS, PP, PE, PVC, PC) Molding processes (e.g., injection, extrusion, blow molding) Knowledge of procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications.
