The Purchase Manager is responsible for sourcing, procurement, vendor management, cost control, and timely availability of all raw materials, consumables, spares, and services required for smooth operation of a steel rolling mill. This role ensures quality materials at competitive prices and establishes strong supply-chain systems to support production targets.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Procurement & Sourcing
Plan and execute procurement of raw materials such as
, etc.
Negotiate prices, payment terms, and contracts to ensure best value procurement.
Monitor market trends, steel prices, and availability of critical inputs.
B. Vendor Development & Management
Identify, evaluate, and develop reliable suppliers (local and international).
Maintain approved vendor list and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Build long-term vendor relationships through regular interactions and performance assessments.
C. Inventory & Cost Control
Maintain optimal stock levels to support uninterrupted production.
Work closely with Stores to monitor inventory and avoid overstocking or shortages.
Implement cost-saving initiatives and procurement strategies.
Analyze purchase expenses and prepare cost comparison sheets.
D. Coordination & Documentation
Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Stores, and Finance for material planning.
Ensure all procurement documentation is accurate and complete (PO, GRN, contracts, etc.).
Oversee logistics, transportation, and timely delivery of materials.
E. Compliance & Quality
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety guidelines, and statutory norms.
Ensure that purchased materials meet required technical specifications and quality parameters.

Strong knowledge of

Understanding of supply-chain management and inventory planning.
Strong analytical skills and cost awareness.
Proficiency in ERP/ SAP or other procurement software.

4. Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Diploma/BE/B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, or any relevant field. MBA (Materials Management/Supply Chain) preferred.
Experience:
Minimum
5-12 years
of purchase experience in a
steel rolling mill or steel manufacturing industry
