Role Objective
To lead, manage and optimize the purchase and procurement activities at the Niwari plant to ensure timely availability of materials and services while driving cost efficiency, supplier reliability, and compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
Develop and execute procurement strategies for raw materials (coal, iron, scrap, ferro alloys, etc.), consumables, and engineering spares.
Evaluate and finalize vendor contracts, ensuring the best quality, price, and delivery terms.
Identify alternate suppliers for risk mitigation and cost competitiveness.
2. Vendor Development & Relationship Management
Build strong vendor partnerships across steel-related suppliers.
Monitor vendor performance, delivery timelines, and quality benchmarks.
Conduct periodic vendor audits and ensure supplier compliance with company standards.
3. Cost Optimization & Budgeting
Analyze market trends, negotiate contracts to reduce procurement costs.
Track procurement budgets and control overspending through planning and forecasting.
Implement cost-saving initiatives through value engineering and process improvements.
4. Process Management & Compliance
Maintain accurate procurement documentation as per company SOPs and audit requirements.
Ensure compliance with statutory and internal policies (GST, TDS, MSME norms, etc.).
Work closely with finance, stores, and production teams for seamless operations.
5. Inventory & Logistics Coordination
Coordinate with warehouse and production departments to maintain optimal stock levels.
Oversee inbound logistics, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.
Monitor inventory turnover and reduce dead stock.
6. Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
Lead and mentor a team of purchase officers/executives.
Collaborate with cross-functional departments like Production, Finance, Quality, and Projects.
Key Requirements
Education
B.E./B. Tech. (Mechanical/Industrial) or Graduate with MBA in Supply Chain or Materials Management
Experience
8-10 years in Purchase Department within Steel/Metals/Manufacturing Industry

Steel Industry (mandatory)
Technical Skills
SAP/MM Module, ERP systems, MS Excel, Tally (preferred)
Knowledge
Local & national vendor base, raw material sourcing, import procedures, cost benchmarking
Soft Skills
Strong negotiation, leadership, vendor management, and analytical skills
Languages
Hindi and English (proficiency required)
Preferred Attributes
Experience in handling plant procurement independently
Familiarity with government/PSU vendor norms (if applicable)
Exposure to e-procurement platforms and digital sourcing tools
Willingness to relocate or work from Jabalpur, MP
