- Purchase Manager

Position Overview
The Purchase Manager will lead procurement operations for all raw materials, consumables, equipment, chemicals, wafers, packaging, and services required for solar cell manufacturing. The role involves vendor development, cost control, strategic sourcing, negotiation, and ensuring uninterrupted material supply for high-precision, clean-room manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
Identify, evaluate, and develop vendors for wafers, chemicals, consumables, equipment spares, packaging materials, and engineering services.
Source materials from domestic and international suppliers to ensure quality, cost competitiveness, and reliability.
Conduct benchmarking, market research, and cost analysis for price optimization.
Maintain alternate vendor base for critical materials to avoid supply risks.
2. Purchase Operations
Raise purchase orders (POs) and ensure timely approvals as per SOP.
Coordinate with suppliers for order confirmation, production schedules, and delivery timelines.
Ensure on-time availability of materials based on PPC & production requirements.
Monitor end-to-end procurement cycle including PR ? RFQ ? Quote Comparison ? PO ? Delivery ? GRN ? Payment.
3. Vendor Management
Develop strong relationships with local and global vendors.
Conduct vendor audits in coordination with Quality & Engineering teams.
Monitor vendor performance (OTD, quality rating, cost competitiveness).
Negotiate contracts, payment terms, price agreements, and long-term rate contracts.
4. Inventory & Material Planning Support
Work closely with Stores, PPC, and Production to forecast material requirements.
Ensure minimum-maximum levels, safety stock, and lead-time-based ordering.
Identify slow-moving, near-expiry, and non-moving inventory and take corrective actions.
5. Commercial & Documentation Compliance
Ensure full compliance with GST, import documentation, BOE, HSN codes, LC, and international trade requirements.
Handle import procurement including coordination with CHA, freight forwarders, and customs.
Ensure 100% documentation accuracy: PO, Indents, Agreements, MSDS, technical datasheets, delivery notes.
6. Cost Control & Budgeting
Drive cost-saving initiatives through negotiation, process optimization, and vendor consolidation.
Conduct annual budget planning for procurement categories.
Review purchase spend vs. budget monthly.
7. Cross-functional Collaboration
Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, R&D, and Finance teams.
Coordinate with Quality for incoming inspection and supplier quality improvements.
Support engineering projects by procuring new machines, equipment, and technology.
8. Compliance, Safety & Sustainability
Ensure all purchased materials meet EHS, MSDS, and clean-room compliance for solar cell manufacturing.
Ensure chemical suppliers follow proper hazardous material transportation norms.
Promote sustainable sourcing and environmentally compliant vendors.
Skills & Competencies Required
Strong knowledge of procurement in solar/semiconductor/electronics/chemical industries.
Excellent negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills.
Strong understanding of import procurement, INCOTERMS, LC, logistics, and freight.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/MM, Oracle, Zoho, or equivalent).
Technical understanding of solar cell raw materials and manufacturing processes.
Good communication, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: BE / B.Tech (Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Chemical) or MBA in Supply Chain Management.
Experience: 7-12+ years in procurement with at least 3-5 years in solar, semiconductor, electronics, or chemical manufacturing.
Experience handling international vendors, import sourcing, and clean-room materials preferred.
