The Pump Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and overhauling of various types of pumps and related mechanical systems to ensure smooth plant operations and minimize equipment downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, align, and assemble different types of pumps (centrifugal, submersible, gear, diaphragm, etc.).
Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of pumps, valves, seals, and piping connections.
Inspect and replace worn-out parts such as bearings, impellers, and gaskets.
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance as per maintenance schedules.
Ensure proper alignment and balancing of pump shafts and motors.
Test repaired or newly installed pumps for performance and efficiency.
Maintain maintenance logs, service reports, and equipment history records.
Adhere to all safety and environmental policies during work.
Coordinate with engineers and supervisors to identify and resolve mechanical issues.
Assist in shutdown and overhaul activities as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
ITI / Diploma in Fitter or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in pump installation, repair, and maintenance (industrial or plant environment preferred).
Skills Required:
Knowledge of various types of pumps and mechanical systems.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and manuals.
Proficiency with tools and measuring instruments (dial gauge, vernier, micrometer, etc.).
Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Awareness of safety procedures and PPE usage.
Work Conditions:
Workshop and field-based work environment.
May involve working in shifts, weekends, or during plant shutdowns.
Requires physical fitness to handle heavy components and tools.
