Pulmonologist is a medical doctor specializing in diagnosing, treating, and managing respiratory system disorders such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and lung fibrosis. They perform lung function tests, interpret imaging, prescribe inhalers or oxygen therapy, guide mechanical ventilation, and manage critical care. They work in hospitals, clinics, or intensive care units, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient breathing, prevent complications, and improve overall pulmonary health.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnose respiratory disorders using clinical exams and imaging modalities effectively. Perform and interpret pulmonary function tests for accurate disease evaluation. Manage respiratory failure through non-invasive and invasive ventilation strategies. Prescribe and adjust medications including inhalers, steroids, and antibiotics. Provide long-term care and monitoring to chronic lung disease patients. Educate patients on preventive strategies and breathing hygiene. Collaborate with intensivists, cardiologists, and other specialists in care. Document patient progress, treatment plans, and make evidence-based recommendations.

Skill & Experience

Excellent knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and disease mechanisms. Strong diagnostic skills using imaging, labs, and pulmonary function testing. Proficiency in ventilator management and critical care respiratory support. Good communication skills to counsel patients and explain treatment plans. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team under high-pressure situations. Problem-solving mindset to develop individualized and evidence-based treatment strategies.
