Job Description

Conducting specialized tests like bronchoscopies, reading sleep studies, developing personalized treatment plans with medications and lifestyle changes, providing critical care for severe respiratory conditions, and collaborating with other specialists in a multidisciplinary approach. Key Roles & Responsibilities

Diagnosis and Treatment

: Diagnose and manage complex respiratory illnesses like asthma, COPD, tuberculosis, and lung cancer. Perform advanced diagnostic procedures, including bronchoscopies, spirometry, CT scans, and sleep studies, to accurately assess lung function and identify issues.

Patient Management

: Develop and adjust personalized treatment plans, which may involve prescribing medications, recommending lifestyle changes (e.g., quitting smoking), and advising on physical activity. Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and risks, empowering them to manage their health.

Critical Care

: Provide critical care for patients with life-threatening respiratory conditions, such as acute respiratory failure and severe exacerbations of chronic illnesses. Specialize in using life-support techniques, including mechanical ventilation.

Collaboration and Research

: Work with other healthcare professionals, such as oncologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, to provide comprehensive patient care. Participate in research and clinical studies to develop new treatments and improve understanding of respiratory disorders.

Specialized Focus Areas

: Some pulmonologists specialize further in areas like sleep medicine, interventional pulmonology (for more advanced procedures), or critical care, tailoring their expertise to specific patient needs.
