Job Description


The position is located in the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, based in New Delhi. The incumbent will report to a Public Information Officer in the Social Media Section of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division in the Department of Global Communications in New York with an additional reporting line to the Director of the Information Centre in New Delhi.

The Section is responsible for devising, implementing, and managing the multilingual social media strategy of the Department, in line with its overall communications guidance, priorities and messaging and as guided by administrative policies on the institutional use of social media.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Public Information Assistant will
be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provides specialized assistance in the production, editing and promotion of platform optimized social media assets in Hindi;
  • Researches a broad scope of social media content for target audiences, for use across United Nations social media platforms;
  • Serves as a focal point on UN social media activities; liaises with colleague and external
partners on activities and events suitable for promotion on UN social media Hindi language
channels;
  • Organizes and executes special events and social media activations;
  • Undertakes proactive initiatives to build influencer support and nurture relationships;
develops mechanisms to gather data on the audience of UN social media campaigns and outreach;
  • Participates in planning and execution of live social media activations and events;
  • Assists in the daily management of the United Nations social media presence in Hindi,
including drafting and editing content;
  • Manages updates and further develops internal editorial tools; generates a variety of reports on social media insights;
  • Provides guidance and training to junior staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

Minimum of seven years of experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience providing specialized assistance in the production, editing and promotion of platform-optimized social media assets in Hindi is required.

Experience assisting in the daily management of a global social media presence, including drafting and editing content in Hindi is required.

Experience researching a broad scope of social media content for target audiences in an international setting is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English and Hindi is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
