Role Overview
The Psychologist will play a key role in providing psychological assessment, counseling, and therapy to patients undergoing neuro rehabilitation. The role involves working closely with a multidisciplinary team--including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, medical social workers, and physicians--to support the patient's emotional, cognitive, and behavioral recovery. The Psychologist also supports families and caregivers, ensuring holistic care and reintegration of patients into their communities.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
Conduct detailed psychological assessments of patients with neurological conditions (e.g., stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's, etc.).
Provide evidence-based interventions including cognitive-behavioral therapy, supportive counseling, behavioral modification, and cognitive retraining.
Manage psychological issues related to adjustment, depression, anxiety, personality changes, and post-traumatic stress.
Design and monitor individualized treatment plans in coordination with the rehabilitation team.
Facilitate group therapy sessions for patients when appropriate.
Family & Caregiver Support
Provide counseling and psychoeducation to families and caregivers to help them cope with the patient's condition.
Conduct family therapy sessions when required.
Train caregivers on managing patient behavior, communication, and emotional needs at home.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Work as part of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team to integrate psychological care into the overall rehab plan.
Contribute to patient case discussions, treatment planning, and review meetings.
Provide guidance to other clinical staff on patient behavior and psychological needs.
Clinical Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate case notes, assessments, and progress reports in line with organizational policies.
Contribute to patient outcome measurement, research, and program evaluation.
Capacity Building & Training
Support training sessions for staff on psychological aspects of neuro rehab (stress management, communication with patients, etc.).
Mentor junior psychologists, interns, or trainees if applicable.
Qualifications & Skills
Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or equivalent
Minimum 2-3 years' clinical experience, preferably in neurorehabilitation, hospitals, or mental health settings.
Strong knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation, behavioral therapy, and neuropsychological assessments.
Excellent communication, empathy, and counseling skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Research experience in neuropsychology or rehabilitation psychology (desirable).
