Primary Clinical Responsibilities

1. Patient Assessment & Diagnosis

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of new and existing patients (history taking, mental status examination, risk assessment, etc.).

Diagnose a wide range of psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and other mental health illnesses.

Differentiate between psychiatric, neurological, and medical causes of symptoms.

2. Treatment Planning & Management

Develop individualized treatment plans integrating medical and psychosocial approaches (medications, therapies, lifestyle suggestions).

Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on clinical response, side effects, and evolving needs.

3. Medication Management

Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications appropriately, balancing benefits, potential side effects, and risks.

Educate patients and families about medication use, expected outcomes, and safety issues.

4. Therapeutic Interventions

Provide or supervise psychotherapy interventions (individual, group, or family therapy) when applicable.

Use evidence-based treatments such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) or supportive therapy alongside medication. ?

5. In-Patient Care & Hospitalization

Recommend and manage hospitalization for patients needing acute stabilization or intensive monitoring.

Provide ongoing care for hospitalized patients, including daily rounds and multidisciplinary coordination.

Assess safety risks (e.g., suicide risk), initiate appropriate interventions, and follow legal/ethical protocols for involuntary care if needed.

Collaborative & Multidisciplinary Duties

6. Team Collaboration

Work closely with psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals to create holistic care plans.

Participate in team discussions, care conferences, and discharge planning.

7. Family & Caregiver Engagement

Educate and counsel families or caregivers on patient conditions, treatment expectations, relapse signs, and support strategies.

Facilitate family involvement in recovery plans.

Administrative & Professional Responsibilities

8. Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential medical records for all patient interactions.

Ensure documentation meets legal, regulatory, and hospital quality standards.

9. Quality Assurance & Policy Adherence

Follow hospital guidelines, standard operating procedures, and ethical standards in clinical care and patient interactions.

Participate in quality improvement, safety reviews, and audit activities.

10. Education & Leadership

Mentor and supervise junior psychiatrists, residents, interns, or trainees (if applicable).

Stay updated with best practices, new research, and treatment modalities.

May contribute to clinical training sessions, seminars, or hospital teaching programs.

Crisis & Emergency Duties

11. Emergency Psychiatric Care

Evaluate and manage psychiatric emergencies--acute agitation, suicidal behaviours, severe psychosis, or medication crises.

Provide rapid assessment and stabilization, with appropriate referral or admission.

Community & Patient Outreach (Optional/Depending on Role)

12. Community Education

Participate in awareness programs, community mental health initiatives, or hospital outreach services to reduce stigma and educate about mental health.

13. Follow-Up & Long-Term Management

Maintain continuity of care through scheduled follow-ups, long-term monitoring, and relapse prevention planning.

Pay: ₹80,517.34 - ₹190,664.23 per month
