Role Objective:
To manage, operate, and optimize machine-based solid waste segregation systems to achieve high material recovery, consistent throughput, minimal rejects, and full compliance with statutory and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:Machine-Based Segregation Operations:
Oversee end-to-end mechanical and automated segregation processes at MRFs and processing plants.
Manage segregation lines involving:
Bag openers
Trommel screens
Vibratory screens
Air density separators
Magnetic separators
Eddy current separators
Optical sorters (where applicable)
Ensure efficient separation of wet waste, recyclables, combustibles, and inert fractions.
Process Optimization:
Monitor and optimize plant throughput, recovery efficiency, and reject percentage.
Control critical operational parameters such as feed rate, belt speed, screen size, air flow, and magnet efficiency.
Analyze machine performance data and implement process improvements to enhance recovery rates.
Plant & Equipment Management:
Ensure proper operation, calibration, and preventive maintenance of segregation machinery.
Coordinate with OEMs and maintenance teams for troubleshooting, upgrades, and breakdown rectification.
Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure minimum downtime of critical equipment.
Quality Control:
Ensure output quality of segregated streams meets downstream processing and end-user requirements (recyclers, RDF consumers).
Monitor contamination levels in recyclables and RDF fractions.
Implement quality checks and corrective actions at machine and conveyor levels.
Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and CPCB/SPCB guidelines.
Maintain operational logs, machine performance records, and compliance reports.
Support statutory inspections and third-party audits related to plant operations.
Team & Shift Management:
Lead plant engineers, technicians, machine operators, and line supervisors.
Plan shift operations and manpower deployment aligned with plant capacity.
Conduct technical training on machine operation, safety interlocks, and SOPs.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
Enforce safety protocols for mechanical segregation systems.
Ensure guarding, interlocks, emergency stops, and PPE compliance.
Monitor dust suppression, noise control, odor management, and leachate handling systems.
Reporting & Performance Monitoring:
Track daily and monthly KPIs such as:
Input vs output quantities
Recovery percentage
Machine availability and downtime
Reject and landfill diversion rates
Prepare detailed MIS and performance review reports for management and clients.
Key Technical Skills:
Mechanical and automated waste segregation technologies
MRF process flow and plant design
Equipment calibration and performance optimization
Preventive maintenance planning
Data-driven operational analysis
Qualification:
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Environmental / Electrical / Civil Engineering.
OEM or specialized training in MRF machinery preferred.
Experience:
6-12 years of experience in machine-based waste segregation or processing plants.
Proven experience managing automated or semi-automated MRFs.
Work Environment:
Fully plant-based role with continuous monitoring of segregation lines.
Requires coordination with OEMs, vendors, and municipal stakeholders.
