Job description
1. Technical Responsibilitiesa. Drawing Review and Interpretation
Interpret architectural and structural blueprints, shop drawings, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) plans.
Identify discrepancies between design and site conditions; propose technical solutions or changes.
Assist in preparing and submitting RFIs (Request for Information) to consultants for clarifications.
b. Engineering Calculations & Design Support
Perform basic calculations (e.g., load calculations, rebar spacing, formwork pressure).
Collaborate with structural or civil engineers to resolve on-site issues.
Assist in design modifications and "as-built" drawings.
2. Project Coordinationa. Liaison Between Stakeholders
Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure information flow.
Ensure subcontractors receive the latest revisions of drawings and specifications.
Organize and attend coordination meetings and technical workshops.
b. Interface Management
Track dependencies between disciplines (e.g., HVAC duct passing through a structural beam).
Ensure that one subcontractor's work does not interfere with another's.
3. Planning & Schedulinga. Schedule Development and Monitoring
Assist the Project Manager and Planning Engineer in developing baseline schedules (using tools like MS Project or Primavera).
Track site progress using daily reports and site visits.
Update look-ahead schedules (e.g., 2-week or 4-week plans).
b. Delay Analysis
Document delays and disruptions (weather, labor, material).
Assist in preparing Extension of Time (EOT) claims with backup documentation.
4. Material and Resource Managementa. Material Take-offs and BOQ Support
Quantify materials from drawings (e.g., concrete volumes, steel tonnage).
Compare actual consumption vs. estimated usage.
b. Procurement Coordination
Raise Material Requests (MRs) and follow up with procurement and vendors.
Ensure delivery schedules align with construction phases.
Verify and inspect delivered materials for quality compliance.
5. Cost Controla. Budget Monitoring
Work with Quantity Surveyors (QS) to track actual costs vs. budget.
Suggest cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality (value engineering).
b. Change Orders
Support the evaluation and documentation of change orders and variation claims.
Ensure proper approval before implementation.
6. Quality Assurance & Controla. QA/QC Coordination
Check compliance with project specs and standards (e.g., ACI, ASTM).
Participate in inspections (concrete casting, reinforcement, waterproofing, etc.).
Maintain and verify inspection test records (ITRs) and method statements.
b. Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
Identify and report any deviation from specs.
Coordinate corrective actions with site and QA/QC teams.
7. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
Ensure compliance with site safety standards (PPE, scaffolding, signage).
Report and assist in investigating safety incidents.
Promote a safety-first culture during toolbox talks or daily briefings.
8. Documentation and Reportinga. Document Control
Keep accurate records of:
Drawings (with revision history)
Material submittals and approvals
RFIs and correspondence logs
b. Reporting
Submit daily and weekly reports to the Project Manager.
Include updates on manpower, productivity, material status, and issues.
9. Client and Consultant Relations
Attend site meetings and represent the contractor on technical matters.
Assist with inspections and approvals by consultants.
Address concerns raised by the client with factual data and proposed actions.
