About the Role
Vision Foundation of India (VFI) is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Programme Manager/
Programme Officer to lead the implementation of the CORE Project. CORE is a school eye
health initiative to be implemented across all BMC schools in the city of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The position demands strong leadership, planning, coordination, and monitoring capabilities
to ensure timely delivery of high-quality eye care interventions to school children. The
incumbent will oversee project execution, manage teams, liaise with stakeholders including
BMC, donors, and partner hospitals, and ensure alignment with VFI's mission to eliminate
preventable visual impairment among children.
Key Responsibilities
Team Management
Supervise a multidisciplinary project team comprising optometrists, coordinators, and
documentation staff.
Conduct regular review meetings, capacity-building sessions, and field visits to ensure
quality and compliance.
Support staff performance management and foster a collaborative and motivated
work environment.
Project Planning and Implementation
Lead and coordinate the overall implementation of the CORE project in all BMC
schools across Mumbai.
Develop annual and monthly implementation plans, ensuring achievement of
screening, treatment, and reporting targets.
Oversee field operations including school screening camps, spectacle distribution,
referrals, and surgical interventions.
Ensure adherence to screening protocols and referral mechanisms as per project
guidelines.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
Track project outputs and outcomes (number of children screened, spectacles
provided, surgeries conducted, referral compliance, etc.).
Maintain accurate project documentation and data management systems.
Prepare periodic progress reports, case studies, and success stories for internal and
donor reporting.
Conduct regular monitoring visits and ensure data-driven decision-making.
Stakeholder Coordination
Liaise with BMC education and health departments, partner hospitals, and other key
stakeholders.
Secure permissions and ensure smooth coordination with school authorities for
scheduling eye screening camps.
Represent VFI in project review meetings, donor interactions, and advocacy events.
Budget and Resource Management
Monitor project expenditures in line with approved budgets.
Support in procurement and logistics for spectacles, IEC materials, and medical
supplies.
Ensure efficient utilization of resources and compliance with financial and operational
guidelines.
Communication and Advocacy Support
Collaborate with the Communication Officer to document impact stories,
photographs, and project updates.
Support community and school-based awareness initiatives on eye health.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated experience in programme management,
preferably in public health, Rural Management, Community Eye Care, or School Health
Programmes.
Essential Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Management, or a related field.
Minimum 4-7 years of experience in programme management, preferably in the
development or healthcare sector.
Desirable Skills:
Strong leadership, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in project monitoring tools and data management systems.
Good communication skills in English and Marathi/Hindi.
Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with digital monitoring tools preferred.
