Mission and objectives:
UNESCO is an intergovernmental organization committed to fostering intellectual and moral solidarity for peace through cooperation in education, culture, the sciences, and communication and information. The organization is headquartered in Paris, France, and has a network of over 50 regional, cluster, and national field offices.
UNESCO New Delhi is presently designated as a Cluster Office and is a platform for delivery of activities in all areas of UNESCO's competence, namely, education, the natural and social sciences, culture, communication and information.
It implements a biennial Cluster programme that is aligned with the overall goals of the Organization as defined in its quadrennial programme and budget, and medium-term strategy. The implementation of the cluster programme is undertaken through a fundamental operating principle - consultation and consensus with the National Commissions of the Member States, Regional Bureaus, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders and partners.
The New Delhi Office is now mandated to cover six countries of South Asia -- Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Context:
The UN Volunteer will assist the Communication and Information Sector of the UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia in the implementation of its programme in South Asia to achieve the above stated Organization's mission and objectives
Task description:
Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia and supervision of Advisor for Communication and Information, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
1. Assist in the organization and delivery of capacity building workshops and meeting of the CI programme/projects related to freedom of express, safety of journalists and media viability;
2. Participate in monitoring and analysing delivery of programme activities and projects to ensure effective implementation and impact.;
3. Support research efforts and contribute to the CI sector's planning for new projects and activities, including background research and data collection;
4. Assist in drafting of reports on CI activities, partnerships, and achievements in the region;
5. Create human-interest stories highlighting the impact of UNESCO's projects and initiatives across South Asia;
6. Assist in the development of a communication plan in close coordination with the supervisor for all extra-budgetary projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and donor requirements;
7. Assist in drafting press releases, website articles, social media content and speeches related to CI programme and events;
8. Undertake any other task assignment by the supervisor.
