The Foundation for Excellence (FFE) is dedicated to transforming lives by providing scholarships to economically disadvantaged students pursuing higher education, particularly in medicine and engineering. Our Rural Healthcare Scholarship Program aims to promote equitable healthcare access in rural India by supporting medical students and fostering a pipeline of doctors committed to serving underserved communities through a Rural Service Fellowship.
Position Overview
The Program Manager will lead the implementation of FFE's Medical Scholarship and Rural Service Fellowship Program. The role involves managing scholarship disbursements, coordinating the Rural Fellowship pilot, overseeing mentorship and skill-building programs, fostering institutional partnerships, and ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation (M&E). The Program Manager will work closely with stakeholders, including medical colleges, rural healthcare centers, mentors, and donors, to achieve program goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Program Management and Implementation
Oversee the end-to-end execution of the Medical Scholarship Program
Manage the Rural Service Fellowship pilot, coordinating the placement of doctors in rural healthcare centers from 2026-2029.
Ensure timely disbursement of and rural fellowship stipends.
Implement a structured skill-training program tailored to scholars' academic stages, covering technical skills, career preparedness, and rural healthcare competencies.
Coordinate bi-monthly mentorship sessions, matching scholars with healthcare professionals, alumni, and rural specialists to foster career development and rural service commitment.
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships
Build and maintain partnerships with 5-8 medical colleges and rural healthcare centers to support scholar placements and program integration.
Conduct outreach and awareness campaigns, including social media and a dedicated application portal, to attract candidates committed to rural healthcare.
Engage with NGOs, community organizations, and corporate partners to enhance program reach, particularly for female candidates and rural applicants.
Organize introductory meetings and regular check-ins with partner institutions to assess infrastructure, align goals, and collect feedback.
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a framework for scholar engagement, including reporting mechanisms and support structures.
3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
Develop and implement the MEL framework, utilizing FFE's templates to track metrics such as scholar retention, rural placement rates, and program impact.
Conduct baseline surveys to assess scholars' needs, demographics, and inclination toward rural service.
Prepare quarterly progress reports, annual impact reports, and completion reports for Scholarship and Fellowship Cohorts to inform stakeholders and refine strategies.
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify trends, challenges, and success stories, sharing findings via newsletters, reports, and conferences.
Ensure data-driven program refinement, focusing on scalability and long-term impact.
4. Research and Strategy Development
Oversee the pilot research study to identify 2-3 target states, 5-6 hospitals, and placement criteria for the Rural Fellowship.
Assess regional disparities (language, culture, accessibility) and infrastructure gaps in rural healthcare centers to ensure successful scholar placements.
Develop strategies to integrate rural service expectations into future scholarship cohorts, including declarations of intent and family engagement.
5. Gender Equity and Inclusivity
Implement targeted strategies to increase female participation, including priority selection, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with NGOs focused on girls' education.
Showcase success stories of female scholars to inspire greater female representation in rural healthcare.
Qualifications
Education
: Bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Experience
:
5+ years of program management experience, preferably in education, healthcare, or nonprofit sectors.
Proven track record of managing multi-stakeholder projects, including partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare facilities, or NGOs.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation, with familiarity in designing and implementing MEL frameworks.
Knowledge of rural healthcare challenges and medical education systems in India is a plus.
