Program Associate, JNV Team, Avanti Fellows Position Summary:
The Program Associate will lead end-to-end operations for one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school. Her/his role includes teaching, inspiring, training and motivating students towards achieving their learning goals. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: \xe2\x9e\x94 Classroom Teaching and Management

• Conduct remote classes on Zoom
• Prepare for classroom sessions with presentation slides in advance and teach students for ~30 hours a week
• Explain concepts in a creative and engaging way using real life examples
• Monitor students\xe2\x80\x99 progress, their classwork and homework to ensure that they are on track to achieving their learning goals
• Encourage self-discipline and punctuality in the Avanti Classroom

\xe2\x9e\x94 Mentoring, Career Guidance and Academic Support

• Build strong relationships with students through one-on-one interaction sessions, help students overcome their academic and personal issues
• Regularly work with students to break down their academic workload into small achievable goals and track their progress on these goals
• Debrief with students regularly on their test scores and classroom performance (both CBSE board and

Avanti) and suggest ideas for improvement

• Assist students in building their career trajectory based on their interests

\xe2\x9e\x94 Parent Engagement

• Discuss the student\xe2\x80\x99s performance with their parents in person or over phone at least once a month
• Conduct Parent Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in schools at least once every 3 months and share aggregate and individual reports with parents

\xe2\x9e\x94 Data Analysis

• Consistently collect and upload feedback about classroom and test performance on Avanti\xe2\x80\x99s online learning management system
• Quarterly analyze students\xe2\x80\x99 performance and track high/low performers, while providing targeted support to the high/low performers
• Generate insights on reasons for poor student performance and devise solutions to address those problems

\xe2\x9e\x94 Special Projects

• Create a healthy learning culture by working on initiatives like (but not limited to) arranging expert guest sessions, organizing field trips/excursions, planning scientific debates in the classroom, etc.

Requirements: \xe2\x9e\x94 Education: B.Sc./M.Sc./ B.E./B.Tech
\xe2\x9e\x94 Skills:

• Subject matter knowledge in any one subject (Physics/Chemistry/Maths/Biology) for Class XI and XII
• Interpersonal skills, relationship building, and stakeholder management skills
• Effective communication skills, both spoken and written
• A quiet room to conduct classes
• Basic proficiency in using computer software and a laptop with uninterrupted internet connection and a minimum upload speed of 2 MBPS
• Previous experience in teaching is a plus

Avanti uses the power of blended-learning, technology, and peer-instruction to create programs that are able to deliver consistent outcomes in low-resource settings. Avanti\xe2\x80\x99s JNV Program: This program supports students at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools
(JNVs) to prepare for high-stakes college entrance exams. Avanti sets up after-school programs in collaboration with school teachers that focus on additional test-prep for college entrance exams.
Students going through the Avanti JNV program are twice as likely to be able to secure a position in professional colleges. In 2020, 60% of Avanti\xe2\x80\x99s students qualified the national engineering exam (JEE
Main), compared to a national average of 34%. Avanti\xe2\x80\x99s Sankalp Program: Over the past 2 years, Avanti has been running a large system change project in Haryana. The project covers 160 intervention schools, where teachers were provided with technology and content to teach Mathematics and Science in Grade 9-12. In addition, Avanti monitors progress through a team of program managers and through the assistance of government officials. Avanti\xe2\x80\x99s Ghar Pe School Program: Last year, in the wake of COVID-19, Avanti coordinated a multi-state at-home learning intervention for government school students called GharPeSchool. In this program, Avanti prepared daily Math and Science lessons that were shared with teachers through the state\xe2\x80\x99s education dept\xe2\x80\x99s channel. This year, Avanti will continue this project in Haryana with an additional component of live classes and also expand this work to support secondary schools in the state of Delhi.
