Role Overview
The Production Supervisor will oversee daily plant operations, ensure smooth production flow, maintain quality standards, optimize manpower, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires strong technical knowledge of steel manufacturing processes and hands-on shop-floor leadership.
Key Responsibilities1. Production Management
Plan and execute daily production as per schedules and targets.
Monitor tube mill / rolling machine / furnace / straightening / cutting processes as applicable.
Ensure optimum machine utilization, minimal downtime, and efficient workflow.
Maintain daily production reports (DPR) and shift logs.
2. Quality Control
Ensure products meet required dimensional and metallurgical standards.
Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections, testing, and corrective actions.
Implement process controls to reduce rejection and rework.
3. Manpower Handling
Supervise operators, helpers, and shift teams (20-40 workers).
Allocate tasks, manage shift rotations, maintain discipline and safety.
Conduct on-job training for workers to improve skills and productivity.
4. Equipment & Maintenance Coordination
Conduct routine checks of machines and tools; raise maintenance requests proactively.
Work with maintenance department for breakdown handling and preventive maintenance adherence.
Ensure calibration and proper functioning of gauges and measuring instruments.
5. Safety & Compliance
Enforce safety protocols, PPE usage, and statutory guidelines on the shop floor.
Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safe handling of machines and hot materials.
Maintain housekeeping standards (5S).
6. Inventory & Material Handling
Monitor raw material availability (steel sheets, coils, billets, tubes depending on plant).
Minimize wastage and manage scrap segregation.
Coordinate with stores for material issuance and consumption records.
7. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare shift-wise production, quality, manpower, and downtime reports.
Maintain SOPs, checklists, and ISO documentation.
Support audits and compliance reviews.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering (preferred).
3-7 years of experience in steel plant operations (tube mill, rolling mill, fabrication, melting, or processing).
Strong knowledge of production planning, machine operations, and quality parameters.
Good communication and team-handling skills.
Working knowledge of ERP systems (optional but preferred).
