The Production Supervisor oversees daily manufacturing operations within the packaging production line. This role ensures that production targets, quality standards, safety protocols, and cost-efficiency goals are consistently met. The supervisor leads and develops shift teams, coordinates workflow, troubleshoots operational issues, and ensures compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Management
Plan, organize, and monitor daily production activities to meet output and quality targets.
Allocate manpower, equipment, and materials efficiently across shifts.
Ensure the production schedule is executed on time and adjust priorities as necessary.
Monitor machine performance (printing, die-cutting, lamination, extrusion, pouching, forming, etc.) depending on packaging type.
2. Quality Control
Ensure all products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
Enforce quality procedures including in-process checks, sampling, and documentation.
Work closely with the QA/QC team to address and correct deviations or non-conformities.
Implement root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
3. Safety & Compliance
Maintain safe working conditions and enforce safety guidelines (OSHA or local standards).
Conduct regular toolbox talks, safety training, and risk assessments.
Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to environmental regulations.
4. Team Leadership
Supervise, coach, and evaluate production operators, technicians, and line leaders.
Promote teamwork, discipline, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Handle shift scheduling, overtime planning, and workforce balancing.
Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
5. Process Improvement
Identify bottlenecks and implement process optimization solutions (Lean, Kaizen, 5S).
Drive waste reduction initiatives (material scrap, downtime reduction, changeover optimization).
Support trials of new materials, equipment, or production methods.
6. Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate production records including daily output, downtime, scrap, and labor utilization.
Prepare shift reports and communicate key production metrics to management.
Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO, BRC, HACCP, or other relevant packaging standards (as applicable).
Qualifications & Skills
Education
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (preferred).
Technical certification related to packaging machinery is an advantage.
Experience
1-7 years of production experience in the packaging industry (flexible, corrugated, rigid plastics, paper-based, or similar).
At least 1-2 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
