Job Title: Pipeline Technical Director - VFX

Department: Production & Operations \xe2\x80\x93 India

Location: Mumbai - Onsite

Summary of Position

As the Pipeline Technical Director, in close collaboration with SMEs in the UK and US, you will be the custodian of all pipeline tools, software and workflows; responsible for ensuring the availability of and adherence to the agreed processes and practices and ensure all VFX campaigns / projects are delivered efficiently to the highest standards.

Responsibilities:

Pipeline Solution Development

  • Steer / lead design, development, implementation, and constant improvement of the Mirriad production pipeline.
  • Liaise with Production and Product to determine and update pipeline requirements, goals, and challenges.
  • Proactively engage and liaise with Ops \xe2\x80\x93 Production - Tech on new tools, processes & features to stay on the leading edge of new developments in the industry.
  • Customize existing tools and develop and identify new tools/plug-ins and interfaces to automate processes, optimize workflow, and increase efficiency of the production pipeline.Pipeline refinements should enable our teams to identify and create inventory and in-content Virtual Product Placements efficiently and to the highest creative standards.
  • Ensure requests for new tools relate to company strategy and perform testing to ensure they can be inserted seamlessly into existing toolset.
Workflow Standardization \xe2\x80\x93 Optimization - Documentation:
  • Maintain and develop libraries (Python) and APIs for our core pipeline tools to meet the requirements of current and future visual effects projects.
  • Document and maintain the pipeline code, tools, and processes to ensure consistency, reliability, and scalability.
Training & Support:
  • Identifying & providing training needs as required to members of the team to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to use the pipeline effectively.
  • Provide real-time technical support to end users, implementing bug fixes or suggesting solutions and work arounds.
  • Operate with a \xe2\x80\x9ccontinuous improvement\xe2\x80\x9d mindset, taking learnings from unforeseen issues where workarounds were required and work to create counter measures and solutions for them to be integrated into the pipeline.
  • Report common issues arising within Operations & Production.
Problem Identification & Resolution
  • Pro-actively monitor and troubleshoot the pipeline to identify and resolve issues and bottlenecks before they impact production.
  • Perform root cause analysis of challenges and provide solutions to mitigate the same.
  • Work closely with the production team to manage priorities, deadlines, and resources, and ensure the pipeline meets our projects\xe2\x80\x99 needs.
Skills & Competencies Required:
  • 12-15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in VFX for films, commercials, or television
  • University degree in Computer Science, VFX, Arts and/or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of the pipeline and workflow specific to VFX industry
  • Advanced knowledge of programming languages like: Python, Maya Mel, Maya API, C, C#, C++, PySide, PyQt, PyMel, HTML, SQL
  • Skilled on building systems in Windows and Linux environments
  • Experience in developing Python based tools and plugins for DCC software/technology packages such as Nuke, Premiere Pro, Maya, Houdini, Shotgrid API, Arnold, V-Ray (or similar renderer), Unreal Engine, Unity Engine, Jira etc.
  • Experience in 3D, modelling/animation/rendering techniques, imaging format, lighting, etc.
  • Excellent working knowledge of all areas of Post workflow, from ingest to archive, including nuances of 2D/3D pipelines
  • Experience with multisite and global pipeline
  • Good knowledge of Shotgrid and having the ability to work with Shotgrid and further its integration into a pipeline
  • Good skills in software engineering/debugging
  • Basic Jira and agile development knowledge
  • Ability to design scalable/partner agnostic systems
  • Ability to research, implement and modify both new and existing techniques and methodologies as they relate to VFX/Postproduction workflow
  • Demonstrable experience documenting pipelines/data flow and tools and providing guidance to entire (end-to-end) analysis and production team
  • Understanding of moving data through the pipeline
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work on multiple high-level projects concurrently
