The Production Chemist/Officer will oversee daily manufacturing activities in the pet foodproduction facility, ensuring that all dog food products meet quality, safety, and regulatorystandards. The role requires strong knowledge of food chemistry, formulation, processing operations, and compliance with FSSAI/pet food regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production & Manufacturing.
Supervise batch preparation, mixing, extrusion, drying, and packaging operations.
Ensure production is carried out according to SOPs, formulation sheets, and process
control standards.
Monitor critical process parameters (temperature, moisture, pH, viscosity, particle size, etc.).
Coordinate with procurement and warehouse for raw material availability.
2. Quality Control & Testing.
Conduct routine testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished dog food products.
Perform chemical, physical, and sensory evaluations (e.g., protein, fat, moisture, ash, colour, aroma).
Maintain accuracy in lab records, COAs, and batch reports.
Ensure finished products meet required nutritional profiles (AAFCO/FEDIAF guidelines if applicable).
3. Compliance & Documentation.
Maintain GMP, HACCP, ISO, FSSAI, and internal quality audit compliance.
Prepare and update production documents--BMR (Batch Manufacturing Records), SOPs, deviation reports, and logbooks.
Ensure adherence to safety standards, hygiene protocols, and plant sanitation.
4. Process Optimization.
Identify opportunities to improve yield, reduce wastage, and optimize cost.
Support R&D in trial batches and new dog food formulations.
Troubleshoot processing issues related to extrusion, coating, drying, or packaging.
5. Cross-functional Coordination.
Work closely with Quality Assurance, Engineering, Warehouse, and R&D teams.
Train production operators on processes, safety, and quality protocols.
Required Qualifications & Skills
B.Sc / M.Sc in Chemistry, Food Technology, Animal Nutrition, or related field.
Experience.
3-5 years in dog food, pet food, feed, nutraceutical, or FMCG manufacturing.
Experience in extrusion-based production is an added advantage.
Technical Skills.
Knowledge of food chemistry and nutritional analysis.
Understanding of pet food formulations and additives (vitamins, minerals, fats, premixes).
Familiarity with lab equipment (moisture analyzer, pH meter, Kjeldahl, Soxhlet, etc.).
