The Production Manager in a Press Shop supports the Production Manager in ensuring that all press operations (sheet metal forming, stamping, die setting, etc.) run smoothly, efficiently, and meet production targets. This role often involves managing manpower, monitoring machine utilization, minimizing downtime, and ensuring product quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Production Management:
Monitor and manage day-to-day production schedules to meet targets.
Machine & Tooling Supervision:
Oversee the operation of presses (hydraulic/mechanical), die setup/changeovers, and maintenance coordination.
Team Supervision:
Lead and support machine operators, technicians, and line staff.
Quality Control Support:
Ensure product quality standards are met; work closely with the QA/QC team.
Troubleshooting:
Address breakdowns, press tool issues, and workflow disruptions.
Inventory & Materials:
Coordinate with stores to ensure raw materials, dies, and tools are available.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce workplace safety protocols, ensure all machines operate within safety guidelines.
Reporting:
Maintain production logs, downtime reports, and efficiency metrics.
Key Skills Required:
Knowledge of press machines (mechanical/hydraulic), die setup, and stamping processes
Strong problem-solving and decision-making
Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or TPM
Good leadership and team management skills
Familiarity with production planning software (ERP/MRP systems)
Typical Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related fields 3-5 years of experience in a press shop or sheet metal manufacturing environment
