Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & SchedulingPrepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on customer orders and internal priorities.Allocate jobs to machines (cutting, bending, rolling, welding, assembly) as per capacity.Coordinate with design, quality, and supply chain teams for drawings, materials, and approvals.
Shop Floor Management
Supervise fabrication activities including cutting, forming, welding, machining, and assembly.Ensure workforce productivity by assigning work to welders, fitters, helpers, and supervisors.Monitor machine utilization and minimize idle time.Ensure accurate execution of drawings, BOQs, and job cards.
Quality & Process Control
Ensure all work follows technical drawings, welding procedures, and quality standards.Coordinate with the Quality department for in-process and final inspections.Take corrective actions immediately upon identifying defects or deviations.
Material & Resource Coordination
Work with the supply chain/stores team to ensure timely availability of raw materials and consumables.Monitor material consumption and minimize wastage.Maintain records of WIP (Work in Progress) and ensure smooth flow of materials.
Manpower Management
Manage and motivate shop-floor workforce; monitor attendance, discipline, and performance.Identify skill gaps and coordinate training for welders, fitters, machine operators.Ensure compliance with safety and housekeeping standards.
Production Monitoring & Reporting
Track daily production output and compare with planned targets.Prepare MIS reports on productivity, machine utilization, delays, reworks, and rejects.Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase efficiency.
Continuous Improvement
Implement lean manufacturing practices (5S, Kaizen, workflow optimization).Reduce cycle time and improve production throughput.Suggest improvements in tooling, fixtures, jigs, and processes.
Required Skills & QualificationsDiploma/Degree in Mechanical/Production Engineering.4-10 years of experience in fabrication or heavy engineering production.Strong knowledge of fabrication processes--cutting, bending, rolling, welding, assembly.Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication standards.Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in production planning tools, MS Excel, and basic ERP/MIS software.Preferred QualificationsExperience in structural fabrication, sheet metal, pressure vessels, or custom fabrication.Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.Familiarity with WPS/PQR and quality standards (ISO/AWS/ASME).Work EnvironmentShop-floor based role; requires continuous supervision of fabrication operations.Interaction with design, quality, stores, and dispatch teams.May require overtime or shift work depending on production load.
