Understanding Metal Properties
Apply knowledge of hardness, tensile strength, ductility, toughness, and heat resistance in manufacturing. Oversee processes such as casting, forging, rolling, extrusion, welding, CNC machining, turning, milling, and grinding. Handle annealing, normalizing, hardening, tempering, carburizing, and nitriding to achieve required material properties. Supervise MIG, TIG, ARC welding and ensure correct electrodes, filler materials, and welding parameters are used. Check raw materials and finished parts using tools like Vernier callipers, micrometres, hardness testers, and gauges. Plan production schedules, manage manpower, and ensure smooth workflow on the shop floor. Identify metal defects such as cracks, porosity, warping, and corrosion, and take corrective actions. Optimize material usage, reduce scrap, and improve productivity using lean manufacturing methods.
