About MBRDI
Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bengaluru with a satellite office in Pune, is the largest R&D center for Mercedes-Benz Group AG outside of Germany. Our mission is to drive innovation and excellence in automotive engineering, digitalization, and sustainable mobility solutions, shaping the future of mobility.
An AI Tools CoE Product Owner (PO) is accountable for the vision, value, and governance of enterprise AI engineering tools, ensuring developers and teams use them safely, efficiently, and at scale to deliver business outcomes. The role owns the end?to?end lifecycle of AI development tools (e.g., Devin, Windsurf, and similar AI coding/agent platforms) as strategic capabilities of the AI Tools CoE, rather than as standalone apps or point solutions.
Core Responsibilities
Define and continuously refine the AI Tools CoE vision, scope, and operating model, focusing on how AI coding assistants, autonomous agents, and related platforms are evaluated, standardized, and rolled out enterprise?wide.
Own and prioritize the AI tooling platform backlog: use cases, integrations (IDEs, repos, CI/CD, ticketing), guardrails, observability, and enablement assets that make AI tools safe and productive by default.
Establish and evolve standard toolchains and patterns for AI?assisted development (e.g., Devin workflows, Windsurf usage patterns, code?review policies, evaluation frameworks) and ensure they are adopted across teams.
Work with business and engineering leaders to identify, qualify, and prioritize AI tooling use cases such as code migration, refactoring, test generation, documentation, and runbook automation, then express them as clear, testable user stories.
Partner with platform engineering, security, and data teams to design and deliver the underlying AI tools platform (access, SSO/RBAC, logging, data boundaries, model choices, cost controls) that powers organization?wide consumption.
Governance, Risk, and Compliance Focus
Embed governance guardrails into the AI Tools CoE backlog: code provenance tracking, AI?generated code review requirements, OSS/license controls, and usage policies per risk tier and environment.
Ensure that responsible AI principles (fairness, transparency, privacy, safety) are applied specifically to AI tooling, including how agents access code, data, and production systems.
Collaborate closely with InfoSec, Legal, Compliance, and Risk to align AI tool configurations and workflows with regulatory and internal policy requirements, and to maintain auditable records of AI?assisted changes.
Value Realization and Adoption
Define and track AI tooling KPIs such as developer productivity uplift, cycle time reduction, defect and incident rates, policy violations, and adoption across teams; use these insights to steer the roadmap and investment.
Orchestrate change management and enablement: onboarding journeys, playbooks, internal documentation, office hours, communities of practice, and showcase sessions that turn AI tools into everyday, trusted companions for developers.
Champion an AI?powered engineering" culture, ensuring teams understand not just how to use tools like Devin and Windsurf, but when, where, and why to use them for maximum business impact and minimal risk.
Delivery and Ways of Working
Lead AI Tools CoE squads in agile delivery: facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and UAT for platform features, integrations, and policy changes related to AI tools.
Translate strategy into implementation roadmaps that phase in pilots, guardrailed expansions, and enterprise rollouts, ensuring learnings from early adopters are fed back into standards and platform capabilities.
QualifikationenProven experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager in an agile environment (Scrum, SAFe etc.). PO/CSPO/SAFe POPM certification preferred.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, DevOps, and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, trunk?based development, code review workflows).
Hands?on exposure to AI coding assistants and/or autonomous agents (e.g., Devin, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Codeium, Cursor) and their enterprise integration patterns.
Familiarity with cloud and DevOps ecosystems (Azure, GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar) and how Devin?like agents integrate via repos, pipelines, and work management tools.
Solid understanding of AI concepts: ML basics, LLM capabilities/limitations, prompt design, evaluation, and monitoring at a conceptual level.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; able to translate complex AI/engineering concepts into simple value narratives for execs and business teams.
Experience defining and tracking product KPIs (adoption, productivity, quality, risk) and using data to drive prioritization.
Awareness of AI governance, security, and compliance topics (data privacy, responsible AI, secure AI?generated code, OSS license considerations).
Prior hands?on development experience in one or more languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C#) to effectively collaborate with engineering teams and evaluate Devin's outputs.
Exposure to MLOps / LLMOps tooling (feature stores, experiment tracking, model registries) and how they intersect with AI engineering workflows.
