Job Description

The Role
The Product Manager at Level 5A will play a strategic role in owning and driving the product roadmap and delivery for key technology initiatives at Hapag-Lloyd Technology Center. With deep expertise in Java technologies and enterprise architecture, the role demands a blend of strong technical acumen, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership.
The ideal candidate brings 7-15 years of experience, demonstrating ownership of product vision, heartbeat planning, stakeholder alignment, and successful execution of end-to-end product deliveries in a global environment. This role requires an ability to work across teams, align product outcomes with business goals, and coach teams toward continuous delivery and excellence.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks
Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Define and own the product roadmap and product vision aligned with organizational goals.
  • Drive prioritization through heartbeat planning, value-based delivery, and agile execution.
  • Act as the voice of the customer and ensure continuous alignment with business stakeholders.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, QA, architecture, business, and leadership teams in Chennai and Hamburg.
  • Facilitate regular reviews and feedback sessions with stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely, transparent communication and expectation management across all levels.
Technical Leadership
  • Demonstrate high-level conceptual understanding of technologies such as Java, JPA, Kafka, Microservices, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and JUnit.
  • Support the team in system design (HLD), ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
Product Delivery & Planning
  • Drive and track product heartbeat cycles, team capacity planning, and delivery timelines.
  • Ensure quality, timely delivery of features, enhancements, and fixes with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Oversee FIS3 application development and integration with enterprise systems.
Team & People Management
  • Manage and mentor engineering teams to deliver on product goals.
  • Handle resource planning, team health, and performance tracking.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and coaching.

Work Experience:
7-15 years of IT experience, with at least 5+ years in a Product/ Engineering Management role or strong Business Analysis Background
Proven experience in delivering enterprise-scale applications (FIS3 or similar)
Deep experience in agile delivery and heartbeat/product cycle planning
Hands-on experience in mentoring technical teams and leading cross-functional collaboration
Technical Skills
Conceptual understanding only:
