Role Summary

Leads teams to identify opportunities and gaps within products or functional areas, fosters division-level connections, and guides cross-team collaboration to design architecture and integrated solutions. Directs teams in defining goals, success criteria, and performance metrics, and orchestrates efforts with internal and external partners to implement processes for cross-functional programs. Partners with technical and business teams to drive the roadmap, manages project schedules using automation and AI, and oversees performance tracking and reporting for continuous improvement. Additionally, manages people, drives employee development, and oversees project execution and performance.

Managing Technical Programs and Projects

Senior Technical PM Managers are responsible for planning and directing complex projects to achieve key strategic milestones, ensuring effective management of dependencies and alignment with overarching program goals. They leverage AI to guide projects through all phases of the product lifecycle, applying expertise in dependency management, program and project management, and product lifecycle processes. Their role includes developing forward-thinking strategies, engaging teams with clear vision, and ensuring quality assurance through systematic checks and adherence to standards. By integrating knowledge of program administration, resource optimization, and quality measurements, they deliver impactful solutions while maintaining project integrity and continuous improvement.



Systematic Data-Driven Solutioning

Employing a data-driven and analytical approach, combined with automation, enables effective decision-making and the creation of adaptable strategies, even amid uncertainty. This involves using facts and logic to resolve challenges, systematically gathering and analyzing information from diverse sources, drawing conclusions, generating solutions, and evaluating their impact using quality metrics. Analysis of Customer and Business Needs

Leads teams to proactively identify opportunities and gaps across products or functional areas by engaging with customers and stakeholders, gathering feedback, and analyzing industry trends and requirements. Encourages the use of data and advanced tools, such as AI and automation, to uncover complex patterns, generate and test hypotheses, and inform solution development. Facilitates division-level connections to align experiences across products, guiding teams to develop problem statements, conduct experiments, and determine priorities based on research and industry understanding. Ensures alignment of proposed solutions with Microsoft's goals and strategy, directs system and process improvements to rapidly generate insights, and oversees the creation of solution roadmaps that address dependencies and market needs.

Product/Service/Solution Definition

Senior leaders guide teams in setting program goals and priorities across multiple product and functional areas by translating organizational needs into actionable objectives using data-driven insights. They oversee risk management, leveraging data and advanced tools like AI and automation for proactive and reactive mitigation strategies. Leaders also define success criteria and performance metrics such as OKRs and KPIs, ensure appropriate telemetry is established, and facilitate a clear understanding of return on investment. Additionally, they collaborate with cross-functional teams--including Engineering, Marketing, Design, and Security--to design integrated technical architectures, evaluate solution options, and work with internal and external partners to deliver optimal technical solutions.



Product/Service/Solution Development

Leaders guide teams in partnering with technical and business stakeholders to deliver on product roadmaps, ensuring a clear understanding of value propositions and addressing technical inquiries. They justify capacity needs, advocate for proper resource allocation, and drive the integration of AI features that uphold quality, security, and ethical standards, while aligning capabilities with evolving goals and tradeoffs. Teams are supported in maintaining compliance with privacy, security, accessibility, and other legal and business standards. Leaders oversee tracking, coordinating, and communicating project schedules using automation and AI, enforcing process adherence, managing dependencies, and making adjustments as needed. They facilitate the development and execution of implementation plans aligned with objectives and key metrics, collaborate with stakeholders to monitor progress, and educate teams on validating outcomes and performance targets. Additionally, leaders orchestrate cross-functional collaborations to implement integrated programs and solutions, coordinating perspectives and ensuring alignment on program management, tradeoffs, and improvements.



Product/Service/Solution Performance

Leaders guide teams in owning the customer support experience through comprehensive documentation, monitoring product and service usage, and leveraging automation and AI for root-cause analysis of live-site incidents. They coach teams to enhance support processes, foster collaboration across forums and communities, and partner with stakeholders for broad live-site improvements. Additionally, leaders ensure teams serve as technical advisors, educating and promoting products or services through customer engagements, actively soliciting feedback to understand user experiences. Teams also collaborate with functions such as Engineering and Design to collect and analyze key performance metrics, report progress, and use technologies like AI and customer listening systems to generate actionable insights. By forming hypotheses, conducting experiments, and iterating based on findings, leaders help drive performance improvements and ensure insights are shared with relevant partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications.



Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development

o OR equivalent experience


5+ years of software industry experience, with demonstrated collaboration and communication skills (verbal, written, presentation - to peers and executives). 5+ years of proficiency as a program or product manager with at least 2+ years as people manager. 1+ years(s) of understanding and history developing distributed and/or cloud-based systems.
