Job Summary:



The

Marine Procurement Manager

oversees the procurement of all marine-related materials, equipment, and technical services required for fleet operations, maintenance, and dry-docking activities. This position ensures that all purchases are made in a timely, cost-effective manner while meeting quality and safety standards. The role includes evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, coordinating logistics, and collaborating closely with technical superintendents, vessel managers, and logistics teams to support uninterrupted vessel operations and compliance with maritime regulations.

Key Responsibilities:



1. Procurement Planning and Strategy



Develop and implement marine procurement strategies aligned with operational and fleet requirements. Forecast purchasing needs for vessels, dry docks, and new builds based on maintenance schedules and project plans. Ensure procurement activities support cost-efficiency and operational reliability.

2. Supplier Management



Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with approved marine suppliers, ship chandlers, and service providers. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal value. Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, reliability, and compliance with marine standards.

3. Purchasing Operations



Oversee the procurement of spare parts, marine equipment, lubricants, safety gear, and consumables. Ensure timely issuance of purchase orders and delivery coordination with vessels, shipyards, and warehouses. Manage logistics and documentation for local and international shipments. Verify and approve supplier invoices in coordination with the finance team.

4. Compliance and Quality Control



Ensure all procured items comply with IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and classification society standards. Maintain proper documentation for audits, inspections, and certifications. Enforce adherence to company procurement policies and ethical practices.

5. Coordination and Communication



Work closely with technical superintendents, vessel managers, and operations teams to understand vessel requirements. Liaise with logistics, finance, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth flow of materials and information. Coordinate procurement activities for dry-docking and emergency repairs.

6. Budget and Cost Control



Manage the marine procurement budget, monitor expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Conduct market analysis and benchmark prices to maintain competitive sourcing. Provide regular reports on spend analysis, supplier performance, and cost trends.

7. Team Leadership



Supervise and guide the marine procurement team to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Conduct training and development programs to enhance technical and commercial procurement knowledge.

Qualifications and Skills:



Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field (MBA preferred).

Experience:

Minimum 5-10 years in marine procurement, ship management, or fleet supply; at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.

Technical Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of vessel systems, machinery, and marine spare parts. Familiarity with international shipping regulations and classification requirements. Experience using ERP or fleet management systems (e.g., Odoo, Amos, ShipNet, Danaos).

SHIPYARD EXPERIENCE WILL BE PRIORITISED

Soft Skills:

Strong negotiation, analytical, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership and team management capabilities. High attention to detail and commitment to ethical sourcing.

On-time delivery of marine materials and services. Procurement cost savings vs. budget. Supplier performance and compliance ratings. Reduction in vessel downtime due to procurement delays. Audit and documentation accuracy.
