This role is to Lead Procurement's cost transformation from reducing cost in production to optimizing cost in design then improving cost in production. Position will develop and deploy lifecycle cost processes and solutions. JOB DUTIES Major Role: Lead the deployment of Lifecycle Cost Management (LCM). LCM is Caterpillar's total cost of supply (TCoS) optimization process, seeking to optimize Caterpillar's $20B in TCoS spend, to meet product group's targets. Strategy: This position owns the LCM process and corporate NPI procurement cost processes. It is responsible for sustainably deploying LCM in collaboration with business segment procurement, engineering and product teams. Further, this position is responsible for developing and leading procurement's capabilities in:
  • Should Cost Modeling (SCM)
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Production cost improvements through analytics and supplier cost audits (previously RPM)
To achieve these results, significant leadership and collaboration is required. The LCM manager must understanding the objectives of procurement, engineering and product teams in order to achieve optimized results aligned to the Enterprise strategy including Aftermarket Growth and Operational Excellence. Further, this position must collaborate with other SPPD leaders to ensure alignment of sourcing, quality, and velocity objectives within LCM. Leadership: This position requires excellent leadership skills to effectively sponsor supply network improvements making the best use of available resources, while maintaining strong people focus and fulfilling the responsibilities for leading people. It also needs the capabilities to manage a multinational team; align people's efforts toward the objectives; motivate & inspire people to achieve program goals, having strong business acumen to understand customer requirements and cost drivers, and their impact on the value chain and ultimately OPACC and competitive advantage. The incumbent needs to possess extremely strong collaborative, interpersonal and negotiation skills in order to drive common value chain processes across multiple facilities for a given product. This position needs advanced knowledge of lean value chain principles, material flow, packaging and containerization, the corporate NPI process, facility product & engineering change control processes and analytical tools. Accountable for personnel management and professional development of the LCM team. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Experience is preferred in procurement, logistics, manufacturing, and engineering. The position requires an undergraduate degree from a college or university - or equivalent experience. A minimum of eight to ten years of progressively responsible job-related experience. Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management preferred, e.g.; Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) and Certified in Integration Resource Management (CIRM), or comparable international certification is desired. Well-developed interpersonal skills are required in dealing with sensitive issues, developing others, and reaching consensus on specific actions. This individual normally possesses category team or product team experience. Functional leadership. Is experienced in leading teams, category management and customers to effective solutions. Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skill. Effective communicator, in written and oral form. Fluent in the English language and preferred other languages. Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Caterpillar and our suppliers. Domestic Relocation is available for this position. Relocation is available for this position.
