Job Details:
This role is responsible for the successful management and leadership of a Software Engineering team to deliver products and objectives of any given project in accordance with key milestones and deliverables. They will conceptualise, design, code, debug and perform development activities in accordance with designated standards and procedures.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:Lead and develop a team of software engineers across multiple projects Responsible for resource planning and the allocation of work within the team, to meet project milestones, whilst maintaining project schedules and earned value metrics Responsible for assigning roles, responsibilities and the day to day management of the team. Coach and mentor team members taking a proactive approach in their continual development Produce regular check point reports Using current programming language and technologies provide creative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems Share technical expertise within the department and with other departments as requested. Encourage cross-functional working with other departments Support bids, proposals and customer variation requests Analyse and contribute to system and subsystem requirements specifications and design definitions Design, develop and test applications and programs to support the company's products Design, develop and test software programs following established quality standards and in accordance with internal procedures including coding, unit testing and software configuration control Complete high and low level detailed software design specifications, storyboards and interface specifications Provide support of products through conception to product delivery including problem solving, defect maintenance and support to customer services Prepare reports, manuals, procedures and status reports including ability to create and review reports, technical documents, contracts and proposals Undertake all performance management processes and be responsible for any issues regarding conduct or capability Responsible for all recruitment processes for permanent and contract staff Champion the application of software best practices such as Continuous Integration, Test Driven Development, SOLID and Clean Code principles Work with the DevOps team to maximise automation and efficiency within our teams Keep abreast of improvements and developments within software engineering. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education and qualifications

Essential:Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable:Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification/experience Certified Scrum Master

Skills knowledge and experience:

Essential:Demonstrable software engineering experience with a proven track record of specification, design and development of software Current knowledge of software engineering programming languages and technologies Good understanding of refactoring techniques for improving legacy code Hands on capability at a coding level when required Key input to team members appraisals, ensuring that they have measurable personal development goals which encourage software best practices Key input to recruitment, identifying candidates with strong skills with software best practices Result orientated and capable of taking a lead role in a project including developing concepts, objectives, resource requirements and cost controls Demonstrate the ability to manage a team including setting objectives, performance management and development Effective decision maker with the ability to consider the impact and take accountability for decisions Proven track record of problem solving and effective resolution. With the ability to define test schedules and data requirements Excellent written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including ability to create and review reports, technical documents, contracts and proposals.
