The Clinical Development business at GSK is completing a transformation which is simplifying processes and systems through technology. Job Purpose The Principal Engineer will have responsibility for the product domains within Data Analytics and Reporting, which is primarily aligned to the Development BioStatistics Function. Through 2023, most of the backlog will be focused on delivering SPACE, a cutting edge Technology platform to accelerate and make more efficient the BioStatistics capabilities, and ultimately help get GSK vaccines and medicines to patients who are waiting for them. In addition to SPACE, we will continue to explore new Digital, Data and Analytics Technology to enable GSKs BioStatistics business function to use data to power GSK R&D, and decommission systems which are no longer needed. SPACE deliverables include: WARP \xe2\x80\x93 an on-prem linux-based R and Python programming environment \xe2\x80\x93 this is already deployed and scaled to over 800 users, and will be replaced with a cloud-based platform (Domino). RAPIDO Data Viewer \xe2\x80\x93 a cloud-based framework which allows statistical programmers to deploy standard R/Shiny-based interactive visualisations of study tables, forms and listing (TFLs) from CDISC ADaM standard datasets to be utilized across studies. Domino \xe2\x80\x93 a cloud-based off-the-shelf data science platform, implemented in GSK\xe2\x80\x99s Azure cloud, which includes configured programming workspaces (container images) for R, Python, and SAS, which are spun-up and taken down as needed by users, for their daily programming and computing needs. Statistical Computing Environment \xe2\x80\x93 a set of bespoke tools which interact with Domino to provide control over activities in Domino projects which are used to deliver GxP study submissions. Study Data and Metadata Management \xe2\x80\x93 A secure Data Lake which houses the Clinical Data Foundation Layer, a metadata database which describes the data and which users can plan the data they create, and Denodo views (source domains) of that data which users can reference in their statistical programs to help automate and validate the generation of outputs and submission deliverables. This role is accountable for the continuous improvement and release of R&D Tech systems in alignment with Agile and DevOps principles, for the Clinical Data Analytics & Reporting function at GSK. The Principal Engineering works closely with Architecture, Product Owners, Agile Facilitators, and Quality Assurance teams to design and deliver regular releases of the Products. The Engineer is a \xe2\x80\x9cT-Shaped\xe2\x80\x9d role that will build depth and breadth across key engineer competencies e.g. Software Development, Testing, DevOps, Data Science/Analytics, Lifecycle Management, etc. In addition, the role will demonstrate or build core engineer knowledge/experience of industry technologies, practices and frameworks. About R&D Tech and Clinical Solutions GSK R&D is led by science and is building and extending our portfolio of products at pace, and Regulatory has a critical part to play in building the strategy and preparing for regulatory submissions globally as well as maintaining GSK\xe2\x80\x99s licence to operate for its extensive existing product portfolio. Regulatory must work increasingly closely with internal and external partners and regulators and an efficient regulatory platform is critical to GSK\xe2\x80\x99s success. • The continuous development and delivery of technology solutions from product roadmaps adopting agile and dev ops principles
• Ensures that technical delivery is fully compliant with GSK Security, Quality and Regulatory standards and maintains a strong collaborative relationship with Quality assurance groups; supports business owners in internal and external audits
• Ensures use of relevant R&D Tech / central services and collaborating with service partners in identification and delivery of service improvements
• Proactively develops and delivers continuous improvement/simplification of aspects of Product portfolio to enhance user productivity, increase system reliability and reduce the total cost of ownership
• Drives experiments with a focus on supporting seamless flow of data and driving automation (using new tools and technologies, such as AI/ML/NLP) and Data Analytics
• Ensures the team keeps relevant technical documentation up to date in support of the lifecycle plan for audits/reviews.
• Provides technical expertise to product teams composed of GSK FTEs, strategic partners and software vendors (Indirect management of up to 20+ 3rd party resources)
• Contributes to release planning and roadmaps working closely with Product Owners, Product Director and Enterprise Architect

  • Experience securing APIs and web apps including knowledge of penetration testing, injection, OWASP, SSL, XSS, CSRF
  • Experience with token-based authentication and authorization including JWT, SAML, AD, MSAL
  • Experience with RDBMS design, implementation, and performance tuning particularly with Azure SQL
• Testing
  • Proven experience in test automation including unit testing, integration testing, BDD, gherkin/cucumber, Selenium, Postman
  • Deep understanding of test automation strategies including test-driven development and test-first development in a CI/CD context
  • Experience implementing a robust test automation framework to support continuous delivery using ADO
  • Ability to translate user and system requirements into comprehensive, effective, and robust automated test cases
  • Experience optimizing test execution to improve development cycle times
• Role requires:
  • Track record of development and delivery of flexible, scalable and supportable IT systems
  • Demonstrated skill in delivering solutions that integrate commercial off-the-shelf products
  • Customer focus and excellent problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

• Experience working in Pharma R&D or similar relevant technical and scientific domains (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Clinical, etc)
