This job offers a unique and exciting opportunity to lead and contribute in the design, development and characterization of materials for Baxter\'s Medical Products and Therapies. This position of Principal Engineer is responsible for leading, executing and delivering on the material science projects employing fundamental principles of materials and engineering to resolve complex problems for new products and/or existing products, using sound knowledge of physical and chemical properties of materials, materials testing and characterization and engaging in collaboration with global and/or cross-functional teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, execution, testing, analysis, managing all activities necessary to complete material engineering projects initially focusing on a specific regional area and products. Manage the sustenance project activities relevant to materials to meet global medical device regulation requirements, performance, product improvement, EUMDR remediation and change control. Define and establish material specifications in accordance with manufacturing, marketing and customer expectations and performance requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional global material team and multiple global manufacturing/design sites and proactively and regularly communicate to meet objectives and maintain region support. Formulate innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis. Analyze and determine best solutions to non-routine experimental design or research problems with minimal assistance. Accurately conduct experiments and assess results for validity and conformance to specifications. Resolve out-of-specification/out-of-trend results timely. Leverage critical thinking skills to drive the investigation to conclusions based on sound scientific principles. Create, update and maintain laboratory equipments and analytical procedures. Leverage operational excellence in the execution of laboratory activities. Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate adherence to relevant Quality System Regulations and other regulatory requirements related to R&D (product development, design and safety) to ensure compliance in all research, data collection and reporting activities. This applies to governmental and international industry requirements, procedures, regulations and standards e.g., related to method validation (USP, ICH). Identify risks, issues and opportunities. Champion ideas and feasibility of VIP that impact the business bottom-line. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. List of knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Holds a PhD / Master\'s / Bachelor\'s degree in Chemical / Materials Engineering / Biomedical Engineering or equivalent with minimum 10 to 15 years of experience leading cross-functional teams in areas of Sustenance engineering/Application Engineering/New product development in medical device industry or similar regulated domains and demonstrated success in delivering results on several technical challenges. Experience with medical disposable product development and testing, especially in the design of plastic parts and/or packaging/fluids flow component product designs (like injection molded couplers and extrusions). Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for materials engineering projects with substantial complexity and scope. Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e., manufacturing, quality, regulatory, etc.) Experience in laboratory management activities and sustenance A good understanding of ISO, ICH, Ph. Eur, USP guidelines and cGxP practice. Experience in mechanical testing of materials, functional testing, physical and chemical characterization of materials using the techniques but not limited to DSC, FTIR, Melt flow, UV, GC, GC-MS, HPLC. Proven communication skills and ability to perform under pressure and within a cross-functional team environment. Having critical mind and scientific curiosity.
