Responsibilities:

Architecture & Strategy

Define the end-to-end data platform architecture (batch, streaming, real-time, and analytical workloads). Own the data platform roadmap, balancing scalability, performance, cost, security, and maintainability. Establish architectural principles, reference architectures, and design standards across the organization. Evaluate and recommend technologies, tools, and vendors aligned with business goals. Ability to design enterprise-grade data warehouses that support: Complex analytical workloads, High-concurrency BI and reporting, near-real-time data availability Strong understanding of ELT/ETL architecture, Advanced SQL expertise Experience architecting and optimizing modern cloud data warehouses, such as Snowflake or equivalent

Platform Design & Engineering

Design and oversee cloud-native and hybrid data platforms (AWS). Architect solutions for: Data ingestion (batch & streaming) Data lakes, lakehouses, and warehouses Real-time analytics and event-driven systems Data transformation and orchestration Ensure platforms are highly available, fault-tolerant, and performant at scale (PB-level data).

Data Warehouse, Governance, Security & Compliance

Deep expertise in data warehouse architecture and modeling Define and enforce data governance, quality, lineage, and metadata strategies. Architect secure data access models (RBAC/ABAC), encryption, and auditing.

Leadership & Collaboration

Act as a technical authority and mentor for data engineers and platform teams. Partner closely with analytics, ML, product, and business stakeholders. Review and approve architecture designs, major implementations, and critical changes. Influence executive stakeholders through clear communication of trade-offs and risks.

Operational Excellence

Drive observability, monitoring, and reliability across the data platform. Optimize platform cost, performance, and scalability. Define SLAs, SLOs, and operational best practices.



Requirements:
12+ years in data engineering, data architecture, or platform engineering roles. 5+ years designing and leading enterprise-scale data platforms. Proven experience operating data systems at large scale and high complexity. Familiarity with GitOps workflows and deployment pipelines. Solid understanding of logging, tracing, and monitoring tools in AWS

Technical Expertise

Deep knowledge of modern data architecture: Data lakes, lakehouse, and data warehouse patterns Strong experience with cloud data ecosystems (AWS and preferred if knowledge of other cloud), including: Storage, compute, networking, and security services Expertise in data processing frameworks: Spark, Flink, Beam, or similar Strong understanding of: Streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub) SQL and distributed query engines Orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, etc.) Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, etc.)

Architectural Skills

Ability to design systems for scalability, resiliency, and cost efficiency Strong understanding of distributed systems and data consistency trade-offs Experience defining standards, reference architectures, and best practices Fluent in both spoken and written English



Education/Certifications:
University degree in related discipline

The Principal Data Architect is responsible for defining and driving the end-to-end data platform architecture across batch, streaming, real-time, and analytical workloads. This role owns the data platform strategy and roadmap, establishing architectural standards, reference designs, and best practices to ensure scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale. The Principal Data Architect designs and oversees cloud-native data platforms on AWS, including data lakes, lakehouses, and data warehouses, while ensuring strong governance, data quality, and compliance. Acting as a technical authority, this role partners closely with engineering, analytics, and business leaders to guide architectural decisions, mentor teams, and ensure reliable, high-performance data systems that support advanced analytics and near-real-time insights.
