The Prepress Manager is responsible for overseeing all prepress operations related to flexible packaging, ensuring accurate file preparation, color management, and plate-making to achieve high-quality print output. This role requires in-depth knowledge of flexible packaging substrates, printing technologies (gravure, flexographic, or digital), and coordination with design, production, and plate suppliers to maintain precision and consistency throughout the workflow.
Key Responsibilities:1. Workflow & Team Management
Lead and supervise the prepress team, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards.
Plan and schedule prepress activities in coordination with production and design teams.
Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for artwork processing, proofing, trapping, and color matching.
Train and develop staff on new prepress technologies and best practices.
2. Artwork & File Preparation
Review and prepare artworks received from clients or design teams for production.
Ensure correct file setup for various printing processes (flexo, rotogravure, digital).
Handle trapping, step & repeat, distortion, and separation based on cylinder or plate specifications.
Verify correct barcode placement, registration marks, and die-line accuracy.
3. Color Management & Proofing
Maintain consistent color reproduction across substrates like PET, BOPP, PE, and laminated films.
Oversee proof creation (digital and physical) and client approvals.
Manage color calibration for proofing devices and RIP systems.
Coordinate with cylinder or plate suppliers for engraving/proofing and color matching.
4. Coordination & Communication
Collaborate closely with internal departments -- Design, Production, and QA -- to ensure artwork readiness and print feasibility.
Liaise with clients for approvals, technical clarifications, and artwork modifications.
Coordinate with external vendors (plate makers, cylinder engravers, ink suppliers) for technical alignment.
5. Technical Operations & Maintenance
Manage prepress software systems (Adobe Illustrator, Esko ArtPro, PackEdge, Automation Engine, ColorProof, etc.).
Ensure workflow integration between MIS, RIP, and CTP/engraving systems.
Monitor performance and maintenance of prepress hardware, RIP servers, and proofing equipment.
Drive continuous improvement in prepress processes and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma/Degree in Printing Technology, Graphic Arts, or Packaging Technology.
