Precast Engineer

Reporting To:

Precast Production Incharge

Role Purpose:

The Precast Engineer supports production planning, process execution, and quality assurance for the manufacturing of precast concrete components. This role acts as the technical backbone of the precast production unit, ensuring that daily casting activities are aligned with drawings, cycle times, equipment availability, and quality standards. The engineer bridges the gap between design intent and production reality.

Key Responsibilities

Production Coordination

Interpret and translate shop drawings

into actionable instructions for casting teams, including supervisors and technicians. Ensure clarity on dimensions, embedment locations, lifting hooks, and surface finishes.

Plan element-wise casting sequence

by coordinating with the Precast Production Manager to maximize mould utilization and minimize changeover time. This includes daily prioritization based on erection schedule, delivery timelines, and mould availability.

Ensure readiness of all input materials

such as reinforcement cages, embedded items (electrical boxes, lifters), form release agents, concrete mix designs, moulds, and lifting pins before the casting shift begins.

Closely monitor daily operations

including mould preparation, reinforcement placement, formwork fixing, concrete pouring, vibration, curing, and demoulding activities to ensure seamless production flow.

Align with fabrication and maintenance teams

to confirm that steel moulds, shutters, accessories, and handling fixtures are available, operational, and in good condition before each casting cycle.

2. Technical Oversight

Conduct comprehensive pre-production checks

before each casting: inspect mould alignment, surface preparation, rebar and insert placement accuracy, cleanliness, and lubrication. Ensure moulds are dimensionally correct and free of defects.

Validate structural and dimensional compliance

of precast elements as per approved GFCs and shop drawings. Pay attention to tolerance requirements (length, thickness, camber, openings, embedment locations) to prevent rework at site.

Assist the supervisor and technician team

with real-time troubleshooting of technical issues such as honeycombing, alignment shifts, insert displacement, or mould fitting challenges during casting or demoulding.

3. Process Monitoring & Reporting

Maintain accurate records

of daily production metrics: number of elements cast, man-hours deployed, concrete volume consumed, cycle time per element, and demoulding success rates.

Track process deviations and delays

such as non-availability of raw materials, breakdown of equipment, labour shortages, or non-conformities. Promptly escalate issues that may impact production targets or delivery commitments.

Prepare daily and weekly progress reports

for the Precast Production Manager, highlighting performance against production plans, mould utilization, casting output, rejection/rework rates, and opportunities for process improvement.

4. Cross-functional Coordination

Collaborate with the QA/QC team

during inspections at each stage (pre-casting, during casting, post-demoulding) to ensure that all elements meet specified quality standards and are fit for dispatch. Assist in implementing corrective measures when required.

Liaise with stores and procurement

to ensure timely availability of raw materials, consumables (like shuttering oil, tie wires), inserts, and other accessories. Monitor material consumption trends to reduce wastage.

Coordinate with logistics and dispatch teams

to ensure cast elements are properly cured, safely handled, and made ready for loading and transport as per erection schedule.

Work closely with the EHS team

to uphold safety practices in lifting, shifting, casting, and handling activities. Ensure compliance with PPE use, crane safety, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and risk assessments.

Qualifications & Experience

B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Civil Engineering 7-12 years of experience in precast manufacturing or large-scale concrete operations Hands-on understanding of precast production sequences, reinforcement detailing, and concrete behavior
