Position Overview

The Pre-Press Designer is responsible for preparing, correcting, and optimizing artwork files for print production. This role ensures that all digital files meet technical specifications, color standards, and print-ready requirements before they are released to production.

Key Responsibilities

Receive and review client-supplied artwork for accuracy, completeness, and print suitability. Prepare print-ready files by adjusting layout, bleed, color profiles, trapping, overprints, and font management. Perform image retouching, color correction, and format conversion as needed. Create proofs (digital or hard copy) and coordinate approvals with account managers or clients. Pre-flight files to identify issues (missing fonts, low-resolution images, color mismatches). Ensure compliance with production specifications for various printing methods (offset, digital, flexo, screen printing). Maintain color consistency across multiple projects and print processes. Collaborate with designers, printers, production staff, and quality control teams. Manage file organization, version control, and digital asset storage. Troubleshoot technical issues in file preparation and workflow processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat). Understanding of print production processes and terminology. Knowledge of color management: CMYK, spot colors, Pantone, ICC profiles. Strong attention to detail and ability to detect technical file issues. Experience with pre-flight and imposition software (e.g., Enfocus PitStop, Heidelberg Prinect, Esko). Ability to work under deadlines and handle multiple projects at once. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in packaging, wide-format printing, or commercial offset printing. Familiarity with RIP workflows and proofing systems. Knowledge of variable-data printing (VDP).
