Job Summary/Objective :
The Power BI Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing the Power BI environment, ensuring secure, efficient, and scalable reporting solutions. This role involves administration, governance, performance tuning, and collaboration with business teams to enable self-service analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer, monitor, and maintain Power BI Service and Power BI Report Server environments, ensuring uptime and reliability.
Oversee and manage workspaces, datasets, dataflows, data gateways, and user permissions using best-in-class governance practices.
Establish, implement, and enforce security policies and compliance protocols for data access and usage in line with organizational and regulatory standards.
Improve the performance and responsiveness of Power BI reports and dashboards, including optimizing dataset refreshes and troubleshooting performance issues.
Deploy, configure, and maintain on-premises data gateways; resolve connectivity and integration issues between cloud and on-premises data sources.
Monitor capacity utilization and evaluate scaling needs; recommend and implement strategies to maximize resource efficiency.
Partner with data engineers, architects, and business analysts to streamline data integrations and maintain data quality.
Manage licensing, tenant-wide settings, and Power BI Premium workspace capacities to ensure cost-effective operations and high availability.
Support enterprise-wide Power BI deployments, upgrades, patching, and new feature rollouts.
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of operational procedures, best practices, governance guidelines, and end-user training materials.
Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
A minimum of 5 years' proven experience in Power BI administration and business intelligence platforms.
Extensive hands-on experience with Power BI Service, Power BI Report Server, and deployment/administration of on-premises data gateways.
Deep understanding of Power BI architecture, governance frameworks, and best practices.
Advanced proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modelling techniques.
Experience integrating Power BI with Azure services such as Azure Active Directory, Data Lake, and Synapse.
Solid SQL skills and broad knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
Strong grasp of security models, including implementation of row-level security, and data compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Self-starter with the ability to work independently and lead business intelligence governance and enablement initiatives.
Preferred:
Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate and/or Power BI certification.
