About the Program:


The Industry Immersion Fellowship at Volvo Group is a unique program that enables university faculty and post-doctoral researchers to gain hands-on industry experience by working full-time with our technical team at Volvogroup. While a monthly stipend of
30,000 will be provided by Volvo Group, the deputing university is expected to continue paying the participant's regular salary during the fellowship period.

Problem:

Conventional rubber formulations rely on: + Base polymers + Process oils
+ Carbon black
+ Chemical additives
+ Oxidizers
These contribute significantly to environmental impact and carbon emissions. Recycling is limited due to difficulty in breaking down vulcanized rubber.

Outcome:

Identify sustainable alternatives for each component. Reduce carbon emissions while maintaining performance and cost-effectiveness. Enable circularity through effective devulcanization and material recovery.

Idea:

Material Substitution: + Explore eco-friendly alternatives for key components. + Evaluate feasibility, environmental impact, performance, and cost.
Circularity and Recycling: + Develop methods to break cross-links in vulcanized rubber. + Enable reuse in new formulations while preserving performance.
