Job Description

Primary responsibilities:



Design and layout:

Use Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software like Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Eagle to design complex, multi-layered PCB layouts from electrical schematics.

Schematic capture:

Create and review circuit schematics to ensure the design meets all electrical and system requirements.

Component management:

Select appropriate electronic components for a design and create and maintain component libraries and databases.

Design optimization:

Incorporate design considerations for signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI), thermal performance, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Design for manufacturability (DFM):

Apply principles to ensure designs are cost-effective, reliable, and easy to assemble and test. This includes generating all necessary manufacturing files, such as Gerber files, bills of materials (BOM), and assembly drawings.

Prototyping and testing:

Work with suppliers to procure prototypes and then perform functional and reliability testing. Troubleshoot and debug any issues that arise during testing or production.

Collaboration:

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, as well as product management and external vendors.

Documentation:

Create and maintain accurate design documentation, test procedures, and revision control records.
Essential skills and qualifications

Education:

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, or a related engineering field is typically required.

Technical expertise:

Proficiency with PCB design software (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD). Strong understanding of analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit theory and design principles. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as IPC, JEDEC, UL, and CE. Knowledge of fabrication processes, high-speed interfaces (e.g., DDR, PCIe), and multilayer board design.

Analytical skills:

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail are crucial for identifying and correcting design flaws.

Communication:

Strong communication skills are needed to articulate technical information and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Soft skills:

Adaptability, teamwork, and a continuous drive to learn and stay current with emerging technologies are essential.
