Role Overview
The Hospital Pharmacist is responsible for managing the safe dispensing of medicines, ensuring compliance with clinical prescriptions, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and adhering to structured hospital protocols and standardized healthcare guidelines.


Key Responsibilities
Dispense prescribed medications accurately and counsel patients/caregivers on dosage, side effects, and safe use.
Review prescriptions for drug interactions, dosage accuracy, and contraindications before dispensing.
Maintain pharmacy stock, verify expiry dates, and ensure availability of emergency and ICU medicines.
Support doctors and nursing staff in selecting appropriate drugs and doses as per treatment protocols.
Prepare and dispense IV admixtures, chemotherapy drugs, and critical care medications when required.
Ensure strict compliance with hospital drug policy, infection control, and biomedical waste disposal standards.
Maintain documentation in pharmacy registers, HIS/EMR, and comply with audit requirements.
Assist in patient education regarding chronic medication, discharge prescriptions, and lifestyle modifications.
Participate in clinical rounds, providing inputs on rational drug usage.
Ensure adherence to national drug regulations, hospital formulary, and accreditation standards (NABH)
Maintain structured reporting on controlled drugs, narcotics, and restricted medicines.
Support the hospital’s quality and safety initiatives by following structured and regulated practices.

Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy practices, drug regulations, and pharmacology.
Proficiency in prescription review, dosage calculation, and drug interaction analysis.
Ability to manage high-volume dispensing in a hospital environment.
Effective communication with patients, doctors, and nursing staff.
Precision, accountability, and adherence to protocols.

Qualification & Experience
Education: D. Pharm / B. Pharm / M. Pharm with valid State Pharmacy Council Registration.
Experience: 1–3 years in hospital pharmacy preferred.
Certifications: Training in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacovigilance desirable.
