Role: Platform Engineer

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to support the migration of API proxies from Apigee to Kong API Management (APIM). The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Kong, strong exposure to AWS infrastructure, and hands-on experience with observability, Kubernetes, and API gateway optimization.
This role is critical in ensuring high performance, reliability, scalability, and smooth adoption of Kong across application teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the migration of API proxies from Apigee to Kong APIM.
Design, implement, configure, and maintain Kong API Gateway solutions.
Ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and security of the Kong platform.
Integrate Kong with backend services and other enterprise systems.
Support application teams with API onboarding, adoption, and best practices in Kong SaaS environments.
Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues across API gateway, infrastructure, and integrations.
Implement and maintain observability for APIs using metrics, logs, and traces.
Collaborate with DevOps, platform, and application teams to ensure smooth operations.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
5-8 years of experience with API Management (APIM) tools, with strong specialization in Kong.
Deep hands-on expertise in Kong API Gateway (configuration, routing, plugins, policies).
Experience ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability of API gateways.
Strong experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments.
Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure components supporting Kong (e.g., EC2, EKS, ELB, networking, security).
Experience with Redis for caching and API performance optimization.
Strong experience with observability frameworks, specifically:
OpenTelemetry (OTEL)
Datadog for metrics
Splunk for logging
LUA scripting experience, ideally including custom Kong plugin development.
Experience working in Kong SaaS environments.
Nice to Have
Prior experience migrating from Apigee to Kong.
Strong understanding of API security, authentication, and rate-limiting strategies.
Experience working in platform or API enablement teams.
