The Technology division delivers the Group's information technology and banking operation functions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through world-class process excellence and technology innovation. Cyber Security protects the bank and our customers from theft, loss, and risk events through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy and operational risk.

As an experienced Platform Engineer you will be joining the Protective Security and Business Resilience (PSBR) Technology Team, which is part of CommBank's wider Group Security business unit within Technology.


The PSBR Tech team delivers, manages, and holds accountability over a number of technologies and services for our business stakeholders. They define the technology strategy and roadmap, build strong partnerships with stakeholders and deliver on agreed run and change priorities, while being accountable for defined outcomes. This team provides a vital function across CommBank's complex protective security landscape and works closely with the business, vendor partners and other teams within Technology.

This role will offer you the opportunity to manage and support cutting-edge technology services and solutions that focus on protective security and our staff and customers safety. As a PSBR Platform Engineer, your main accountabilities will focus on contributing to BAU and project related tasks, enhancements and deliverables, with a strong focus on testing, quality engineering and automation.


With experience in test engineering, you will contribute to strategic test automation initiatives to evolve testing automation practices and tools. This position will allow you to be a true QA Test Automation advocate and gain growth and breadth of experience in test automation frameworks, techniques and tools, including articulating the business benefits of Automation in the wider engineering context.


You'll have the opportunity to contribute to the DevSecOps, automation and Cloud journey for our complex applications, ensuring they are simpler, faster and more secure. You will offer ongoing platform and testing support and consultative advice to the wider business, relevant stakeholders and your team through uplifting and implementing new ways of working through DevSecOps processes and procedures, while partnering with key vendors and other teams across Technology.


The Security Engineering team protects the group and our customers from theft, loss and risk events, through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy and operational risk.

Roles & responsibilities:

Have solid experience with DevSecOps delivery using Agile practices with specific focus on the following concepts: source control, CI/CD, automated testing, logging and monitoring. Contributes to the development of simple test harnesses, frameworks, tools and infrastructure to enable test automation, CI/CD and code quality. Builds robust test doubles to minimise dependencies. Performs basic maintenance and monitoring of non-production environments. Influences product design, implementation and enhancement to support testability and quality. Contributes to process changes to improve product quality. Automates basic real time anomaly detection through services such as log monitoring. Build, integrate and maintain basic solutions to provide test data. Utilise standardised metrics and reporting to provide testing and quality insights. Create well-engineered, scalable and reliable tests. Participate in learning culture through activities such as guilds and brown bag lunches. Advocates for and contributes to implementing Quality Practices initiatives in the Squad and Crew. Creates overarching testing artifacts (Test Strategy/Approach, Test Exit Report) aligned with minimum testing standards, ensuring regular review and sign-off. Participates in defect triage meetings with Product Owners, following up until defect closure, and share bug status reports regularly with stakeholders. Identifies and applies tools to accelerate quality, demonstrating analytical skills for designing effective test strategies aligned with project requirements. Exhibits a strong problem-solving acumen, efficiently addressing issues throughout the testing process. Possess proficiency in creating new automation frameworks in response to project demands. Demonstrates expertise in data handling within the context of API testing to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Essential skills:

6+ years of Quality Engineering experience. Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD implementation - GitHub, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Jenkins, Octopus. Proficiency with a diverse set of tools, including Selenium WebDriver, Postman, SoapUI, Rest Assured/Rest Sharp for UI and API automation. Adept at utilizing various tools, libraries, and frameworks to conduct thorough UI and API testing. Proficient in formulating automation strategies from conception to execution Extensive experience in testing within agile methodologies, seamlessly adapting to iterative development cycle. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing and maintaining test automation frameworks for User interfaces. Proficiency in scripting language (Java/PowerShell/Python). Fair understanding of cyber security concepts. Work well in teams and have strong collaboration skills in driving continuous improvement. Have a sound understanding of software engineering fundamentals and best practices. Identify and take ownership of issues and follow through with end-to-end resolution of issues. Display a willingness to continuously learn new tools and technologies. Drive automation through understanding processes and implementing improvements Have some experience in Windows and Linux hosting environments.

Education Qualification:

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology.
