Job Description


Position Overview : The Plastic Waste Management Coordinator for Informal Scrap Dealers and Recyclers is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve plastic waste management within the informal sector. This role involves working closely with informal scrap dealers, recyclers, and relevant stakeholders to enhance collection, recycling, and proper disposal practices. The Coordinator will bridge the gap between the informal sector and formal waste management systems, promoting sustainable practices and environmental conservation. Key Responsibilities Engagement and Collaboration: Establish and maintain relationships with informal scrap dealers, recyclers, and local communities. Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and relevant organizations to create partnerships and support initiatives. Training and Capacity Building: Organize training sessions and workshops to educate informal sector workers about safe handling, sorting, and processing of plastic waste. Provide guidance on best practices for recycling and waste segregation to enhance the quality of collected materials. Collection Infrastructure: Assist informal scrap dealers and recyclers in setting up efficient collection points or networks for plastic waste. Identify suitable locations for collection points and provide guidance on organizing and maintaining these facilities. Supply Chain Coordination: Facilitate connections between informal sector workers and formal recycling facilities, ensuring a streamlined supply chain for plastic waste. Help negotiate fair pricing and terms for collected plastic materials to support the livelihoods of informal workers. Data Collection and Analysis: Gather data on plastic waste generation, collection rates, and recycling volumes within the informal sector. Analyze data to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Innovation and Sustainability: Explore innovative approaches to plastic waste management, such as upcycling or creating value-added products from recycled materials. Promote sustainable practices that minimize the environmental impact of plastic waste. Qualifications And Requirements Bachelor\'s degree in environmental science, waste management, sustainability, or a related field. Experience in working with informal sector stakeholders, waste pickers, scrap dealers, or similar roles is highly beneficial. Strong understanding of plastic waste management practices, recycling technologies, and environmental concerns. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to engage with informal workers, local communities, and formal waste management entities. Ability to work in a collaborative and culturally sensitive manner. Proficiency in data collection and analysis, with knowledge of relevant software tools.
