Job Description

The Plant & Machinery Manager will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing all construction equipment, plants, and machinery used across multiple project sites. This includes ensuring maximum equipment uptime, cost-effective maintenance, safety compliance, and efficient utilization of resources to support smooth project execution.

Key Responsibilities



1. Equipment Management & Planning



Prepare and implement the overall equipment deployment plan across project sites.

Maintain an updated inventory of all construction plants, vehicles, and machinery.

Plan preventive maintenance schedules to reduce breakdowns and downtime.

Ensure availability of machinery as per project schedules and timelines.

2. Maintenance & Repairs



Oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and servicing of heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, batching plants, crushers, concrete pumps, tippers, etc.).

Establish systems for breakdown analysis, root cause identification, and corrective actions.

Ensure spare parts availability through vendor coordination or internal stores.

Maintain proper documentation of maintenance logs and service histories.

3. Procurement & Cost Control



Coordinate with procurement for hiring, purchasing, or disposal of machinery.

Negotiate and manage contracts for equipment rental and service providers.

Monitor fuel, lubricant, and spare parts consumption to prevent misuse and control costs.

Analyze equipment utilization and recommend cost-saving measures.

4. Safety & Compliance



Enforce adherence to safety standards and manufacturer guidelines during equipment operation.

Ensure compliance with statutory norms related to equipment operation, transport, and environment.

Conduct regular safety audits and training for operators and mechanics.

5. Team Leadership & Coordination



Supervise and guide a team of mechanics, operators, and storekeepers.

Coordinate with project, logistics, and finance teams for equipment allocation and budget tracking.

Conduct performance evaluations and skill enhancement training for technical staff.

6. Documentation & Reporting



Maintain records of machinery deployment, maintenance cost, downtime, and performance.

Generate periodic reports for management review (utilization, cost, availability, efficiency).

Support internal and external audits related to plant and equipment.

Key Skills & Competencies



Strong technical knowledge of construction equipment, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

Ability to plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

Vendor management and cost optimization skills.

Excellent leadership and team coordination abilities.

Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems (like SAP / Strategic / Tally), and maintenance tracking tools.

Sound understanding of safety, statutory, and environmental regulations.

Qualifications & Experience



Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Automobile / Industrial Engineering.

Experience: 8-15 years in plant & machinery management within the civil construction or infrastructure industry.

Preferred Background: Experience with large-scale projects (e.g., highways, bridges, buildings, irrigation, or industrial projects).

Certifications (Optional): Equipment Maintenance, Safety Management, or Lean Maintenance certification.

Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Equipment uptime percentage.

Maintenance cost vs. budget.

Breakdown frequency and response time.

Fuel and spare consumption variance.

Safety compliance and audit scores.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?30,000.00 - ?35,000.00 per month
