(also known as a Fire Safety Manager or Officer in an industrial setting) is responsible for overseeing all fire safety operations within a plant or industrial facility, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing emergency response. Key Responsibilities
Policy and Procedure Implementation:
Develop, implement, and maintain fire safety policies and procedures specific to the plant environment.
Risk Assessment and Auditing:
Conduct regular fire risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
Equipment Management:
Ensure all fire safety equipment, such as fire suppression systems, alarms, fire pumps, extinguishers, and personal protective equipment, is well-maintained, functional, and available for use.
Compliance:
Ensure strict compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations and fire codes, including OSHA and NFPA standards.
Training and Drills:
Organize and conduct fire drills, safety training, and awareness programs for all staff and personnel on emergency evacuation procedures and the use of firefighting equipment.
Emergency Response:
Provide leadership and direction during emergency situations, coordinating the activities of in-house firefighting/rescue teams and liaising with external emergency services/local fire departments.
Incident Investigation and Reporting:
Investigate all fire incidents and near-misses, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Permit Systems:
Manage and audit "permit to work" systems, such as hot works permits, to ensure all contracted work meets safety requirements.
