GE Vernova - Grid Systems Integration is globally recognized for designing, manufacturing, and delivering customized High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) solutions for utilities worldwide. With over 130 years of pioneering experience, GE offers two HVDC technologies, Line Commutated Converters (LCC) and Voltage Source Converters (VSC), to support a broad range of applications and deployable in different schemes including overhead line (point to point), back-to-back, submarine/land cable and offshore. Every HVDC solution is tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks.



The plant engineer is responsible to design optimized HVDC substation layouts that integrate all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints. He can intervene either during Intent To Order and/or Order To Remittance stages. He will report directly to plant engineering team leader and functionally to the project plant team leader.

This individual will be responsible for system design, material selection, quantity estimation, various engineering activities associated for a project and customer technical consultations. The candidate will also ensure that the proposed solutions meet customer needs while adhering to industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements and cost-efficiency objectives.

The candidate shall execute with association of workgroups, where applicable, in order to meet assigned objectives. In this role, the candidate will work within defined parameters to make decisions, apply concepts to issues of moderate complexity, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.



The candidate will work with GSI Global Engineering Center (GSI GEC) to coordinate with the GSI Regions / Business Lines / as per Project requirement.

Roles and Responsibilities

General responsibilities:

Execute & analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support systems that meet business standards and program / product requirements. Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers. Document and communicate results of technical data generated. Participate on teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives. Share engineering information and promote open dialogue. Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business. Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

Specific Role Requirements:

HV (Primary) designs for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS Substation Engineering for Grid Interconnected Renewable Energy Projects Preparation of basic Single Line Diagram, Layout Plan & Section of Overall plant, Control room building, Earthing Layout, DSLP Layout, Trench Layout etc Earthing design, Lightning design, Cable Sizing, Battery Sizing, Illumination system design, Sag Tension calculation, Short Circuit Force and Bus- bar Sizing as per IEEE/IEC or relevant global standards. Design, preparation, and review of indoor/outdoor equipment layout includes general arrangement, civil interface/civil guides drawing, and installation (erection) drawings for AIS/GIS substations. Define and review the electrical/maintenance clearances for indoor/outdoor substation areas. Design, preparation, and review of cable trenches, cable tray/ladder and conduits routing for overall substation. Design optimized substation & buildings layouts integrating all the required equipment considering their installation, operation, and maintenance constraints. Support the Civil/building services leader in preparation of HVA/C ducts routing layout, fire protection/alarms etc. related drawing. Prepare design specification of HV/MV connectors, conductors, Insulator and support project plan lead in producing procurement inquiry packages. Support conversion of project contractual documents into plant engineering requirements Support answers to client, partners & suppliers technical queries related to plant engineering. Evaluation of vendor Drawings, GTP, Calculation & Technical Specs ITO (tender) drawings, BOQ estimation, RFQ finalization & evaluation of various components, selection of equipment with best pricing options. Support projects design and gate reviews. Support continuous improvement within plant engineering discipline. Co-ordination of site & office team for execution of project Flexible and quick to learn global developments in renewable technologies and adopt.

Competency on specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, CDGES or equivalent FACTS integrated project applications.

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, from an accredited college or university with a minimum 4+ years of experience on EHV/HV Substation project engineering. Strong knowledge on High Voltage substation international standards & guidelines (IEC, CIGRE...) and related equipment Proficient with Autodesk CAD tools Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud Good understanding of onshore engineering and offshore design and requirements Basic knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) type Analytical mind, rigorous and commitment Professional English spoken and written.

Essential Pre-Requisites and Deliverables

To be able to work on standard IT Tools for the everyday deliverables to the level of competency expected out of the role. Exhibit Ownership, Process oriented & ability to adapt as per the dynamics.
