The Planning Engineer will create, manage, and track project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for civil engineering and construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of project management methodologies and technical engineering principles to ensure projects are executed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The Planning Engineer works closely with project managers, site managers, and other stakeholders to anticipate potential issues and provide proactive solutions.
Key responsibilities
Develop comprehensive project execution plans, schedules, and work breakdown structures (WBS) from contract requirements, design specifications, and other project data.
Utilize project management software, such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, to build and maintain detailed project timelines.
Allocate and manage resources, including labor, equipment, and materials, to optimize project workflows and ensure timely delivery.
Track and monitor project progress against the baseline plan, conducting regular analysis and comparisons to identify schedule deviations and slippages.
Analyze project specifications and technical drawings to determine material, equipment, and labor requirements, and to provide accurate cost estimates.
Conduct feasibility and risk assessment studies to identify potential obstacles and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
Prepare and present detailed progress reports, project updates, and performance metrics to stakeholders, including management, clients, and contractors.
Participate in project meetings to discuss project status, address issues, and propose corrective actions.
Ensure all projects comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, architects, subcontractors, and vendors.
Required qualifications and skills
Educational background
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience
2-4 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, or a similar role, ideally within the construction or engineering sector.
Experience with risk management and cost control procedures is preferred.
Technical skills
Proficiency in project management software, such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
Strong knowledge of critical path method (CPM) scheduling.
Experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and MS Office Suite.
Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
