Job Description

A piping engineer's job description includes designing, analyzing, and overseeing the installation of piping systems for industries like oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation. Key responsibilities involve creating blueprints and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), selecting appropriate materials, performing stress analysis, ensuring compliance with safety codes, and troubleshooting system issues. They also collaborate with other engineering disciplines and construction teams to ensure project success and safety.

Key responsibilities

Design and development: Create detailed piping systems, including layouts, and develop supporting structures.

Analysis: Perform stress and fluid flow simulations to ensure the structural integrity and efficiency of the systems.

Documentation: Prepare Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), create fabrication drawings, and manage bill of materials (BOM).

Material selection: Choose appropriate pipes, fittings, and valves based on the fluid characteristics, such as pressure, temperature, and chemical properties.

Compliance and standards: Ensure all designs and installations meet industry codes, standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.

Collaboration: Work with project managers, architects, process engineers, and construction teams to align on project goals and address technical queries.

Installation and commissioning: Oversee the installation process, including fabrication, painting, and testing, and assist with commissioning and troubleshooting.

Maintenance: Develop maintenance plans and provide technical support for identifying and resolving system issues.
