Job Description

Key responsibilities

Installation:

Assembling and installing complex piping systems for a wide range of uses, such as steam, water, fuel, and chemicals.

Fabrication:

Manipulating pipes by bending, cutting, and threading them to meet specific job specifications.

Maintenance and repair:

Performing routine maintenance and emergency repairs on existing systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely.

Testing:

Testing pipes for leaks and compliance with codes, often under pressure, to ensure they will not fail.

System planning:

Reading blueprints and technical drawings to plan and lay out piping systems and ensuring they are installed according to specifications.
Where they work

Industrial plants:

Power plants, refineries, and petrochemical facilities.

Commercial buildings:

For HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, hot water, and steam.

Shipyards:

For a variety of applications, including hydraulic systems and fuel lines.

Other environments:

They may also work on infrastructure projects, in manufacturing, or in specialized areas like those involving refrigeration systems.
