Take detailed patient history (medical, surgical, social).
Physical examination: assess strength, flexibility, range of motion, posture, gait, balance, functional mobility.
Identify impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions.
Use diagnostic tools/tests (e.g., imaging reports, standardized outcome measures).
Treatment Planning
Formulate individualized treatment/rehabilitation plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, clinical evidence.
Define short?term and long?term goals.
Determine appropriate modalities (manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy, etc.).
Treatment Delivery
Implement interventions: therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, mobility training, balance training, functional training, etc.
Use adjunct modalities where appropriate (heat, cold, ultrasound, TENS, etc.).
Prescribe assistive devices, splints, orthoses if required.
Educate patient and caregivers on self?management, home exercise programs.
Monitoring & Reassessment
Track patient progress with outcome measures.
Reassess and modify treatment plans according to progress or setbacks.
Monitor for risks (e.g. falls, skin integrity, pain levels) and adjust interventions accordingly.
Discharge / Follow?Up
Determine when to discharge or transition patient to maintenance or follow?up programs.
Provide instructions for maintaining gains post?therapy.
Refer to other professionals if needed (e.g., orthopedics, neurology, occupational therapy).
Non?Clinical / Supportive Responsibilities
Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain accurate, timely patient records: assessment notes, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome measures.
Ensure compliance with data protection, confidentiality, and relevant regulatory standards.
Communication & Collaboration
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team: liaise with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, etc.
Communicate treatment plans, progress and any concerns to the team.
Involve patients and families in decisions; ensure informed consent.
Quality, Safety & Risk Management
Maintain safety in treatment (checking/maintaining equipment, safe manual handling, infection control).
Identify potential risks in patient care, escalate where necessary.
Comply with organisational policies and professional guidelines.
Professional Development & Evidence?Based Practice
Keep up?to?date with research, best practices, new treatments or modalities.
Participate in continuing education, training, workshops.
Possibly contribute to internal audits, outcome reviews, or improvement projects.
Patient Education & Health Promotion
Educate patients on prevention of injury / re?injury.
Advice on ergonomics, posture, lifestyle, exercise.
Support wellness programs or community outreach when relevant.
